Haha, 1. I don't do bad. My hole shot could use improvement. 2. I could go on a diet. 3. could you be more specific on the grip and suspension? The reason I am at the drawing board is because a friend of mine has been running me for 3yrs now and he rides a 03 gsxr1000. I usually do better than he does but he has done so many mods to his bike that I guess he has finally got it right! And over the past three yrs. I have never had to mod my 12. His bike is lowered to the ground(more like on the ground) diff sprockets, tire, derestricter, throttle body work, power commander, k&n , full serpenteen exhaust, just to name a few. Now I need to step up. He basically gets me on the jump . I use to be able to catch him and run him down but not any more. he stays out in front of me by a half of a bike up until about 175 then I start to reel him in. What can I do?

hmm, I was just thinking from a car perspective, cuz i know them better. But, you could get stickier tires, that'd help alil bit. And you could set up your suspension differently from stock. If he gets you on the jump, i guess his bike accelerates faster than yours, which if he has a 1000, and you have a 1200, its obvious that yours is heavier. Anyway you can shed some weight from your bike? I'm not familar with the 12. Is your bike stock, and if not, what mods do you have?

Even with that though, he has great power on low and top end. I have been told that if I run a full system and a custom map, I could easily get him once again. At this point, I can't afford to loose or sacrifice anywhere.

ok I have a 1986 Ninja 1000R being rebuilt right now, my first bike ever. I plan on spending this rideing season getting used to rideing before i start doing crazy things to it. my main plan for the bike this winter is to bolt on a turbo with a small front mount intercooler. just kinda pokeing around to see if anyone has done this before? is thier anything i need to be wary of or things that must be done to get it running right. were not going to push it too much just around 5 psi. may also hook up a NOS intercooler chill kit. any ideas?

Good plan Tiny, This bike will have alot of power for a first-timer, definately get used to it before any serious performance mods. Make sure you sink some bucks into good tires, brake lines/shoes/rotors if need be. These items could save you from ending up a grease spot. Go easy, ride on.

the 14 is a sweet ride. I haven't been able to take a longer ride on one, just a couple miles. the engine is sooo smooth and the bike don't feel that heavy.

I recently upgraded to the ZX-14. Smooth ride, insurance not bad since classified as touring motorcycle. It is real nimble in cornering for a large bike, very impressed with the power and handling. I have taken it on a few long rides, very comfortable. I would look at the 14r if the dealer happens to still have one.
