Default Stock ZZR600 tires

Hey guys--

I still have the stock tires on my ZZR after about 3000 miles. They still look in great shape, but I'm thinking about switching them out for a different tire. When I'm cornering hard it feels like my front tire is slipping. Am I just a newbie who doesn't know how to trust my tires? Or are the stock tires just not that great.

I have 3000 on this bike, and put about 9000 on my 500r before upgrading. I never rode the 500 too hard, but drug the pegs every once in a while and never felt like the tires were going to slip on me...

I think they are Dunlop D207s.

Edit: I also want to emphasize further that it's the FRONT tire that feels like it's slipping a little. Can I just replace the front tire? Or should I just go for both if I'm going to change them out.

Also, both front and rear are inflated to the recommended pressure.

Stock tires are not that great... they should work fine... but are not meant for hard cornering.

Pirelli Rossos...Grippy and long wear for a 1000 so for a 600 you will see even more mileage.

So to up the grip a bit I should run a lower pressure? What's still considered safe? Are we talking just a couple PSI below recommended or like 5+?

You could drop the pressure in the front a few lbs. and see how you like it. Have you ever setup your suspension? I keep a table with my suspension settings and tire pressures that I record my impressions. Getting your suspension and tire pressures dialed in make a real difference in handling. It is an interesting exercise.

In terms of safe... I know some guys who run in the teens, but they're playing in parking lots doing stunts. Anyway, you can drop a few pounds and your tire isn't coming off of your rim.

Those stockers are just horrible horrible horrible.

Get you some real tires, and make them match. As far as what tire is right for you, I would say talk to someone you trust locally, (shop) and explain your needs.
