Hello to all.
Just wondering what's the general opinion here on the Ninja 650R, especially from current owners. I am currently riding the VN900 Classic, but am experiencing a 'fit' issue with it. Replacing the seat is currently in the works, but several friends and forum members have proposed that ergonomics - not the seat - may be the real problem. In many cases, the 650R has come up several times as a suitable alt. I took at look at the Ninja today and liked what I saw, but I am curious what the 650R crowd has to say about it. A major question mark is how good the ride is for the long haul; on occasion, I would be taking the cycle for trips of a couple hundred miles. Two up riding reviews is also important, as my wife likes to go for rides now and then. Again, the transition is not concrete, but it's being taken seriously enough to where I've had my cycle appraised for trade-in value. I thank everyone in advance for their feedback.

Hi Alex!
I'm not a 650R owner, but I will weigh in with my opinions anyway There's a world of difference in the fit between your bike and a 650R. Without knowing what your issue is, it's harder to comment much more on that, but I gather from your comments that you would get better use from a "touring" type motorcycle as opposed to "cruiser" or "sport" types. Staying within the Kawasaki family, I would suggest looking at a Concours. Comfortable, good road manners, great for longer rides with and without the misses, not to mention generally good pricing. The ZX-14 is another possibility, but is more sport-orientated IMO and has that ungodly acceleration! If you happen to look outside Kawasaki, I would suggest bikes like the Honda Interceptor or a ST-series, just about any of the K-model BMW's, maybe a Yamaha FJ-series or possibly one of their Warrior models. I hope this helps; best of luck in researching and finding what you want!

Can anyone tell me anything about a 2001 ZX6?
I'm looking for something that has a good balance of low and top end power. I'm not a speed demon but I do want to be able to punch the throttle and make her stand up. Does anyone know if this bike is capable of doing that at low and higher speeds? Thanks |

i got a 636 05, has great power with a scorpion carbon fiber pipe single underseat. i wouldnt mind a ten but ima change my rear sprocket and chain to make wheelies easier in second :} 1st is just fine. but the zx10 is nice with more torque for things like that but 1/4 mile its only like 1 sec faster than an 07 6.

I picked up a 1990 Ninja 750 the other day. It was badly abused and needs a complete rebuild. I ripped the entire shell off and will paint white, took all lighting off and will recess into body. Carbs need to be rebuilt but it looks like this fool who had it before me cut all the vacum lines to the carbs. Does anyone have a photo of the vacum lines they can throw at me? I see there are 4 vacum nipples, 1 on each carb and 2 hoses pairing the two outside carbs together. I dont know where the hoses are supposed to go to? He also tore off the airbox and put aftermarket air filters directly on the carbs.
Take a peek at the project here: 1990 Kawasaki Ninja 750 RS Project You can see the carburetors on the site as well. Help. JD |

first oil change on my 07 zx6r. only part number i could find is 16097-0004. that part number cross referenced to a STP, BOSCH, and FRAM. all three are very close but but the diameter of the stud is off by just a couple of MM. anyone else having the same problem? i refuse to let the dealer rape me for parts and labor. im a mechanic by profession and i like to do my own maintenance.

Your best bet is to get an OEM oil filter. I mean their made specifically to go onto our bikes, as for the store bought ones they have a tolerance made to suit a multitude of bikes and they my not meet the exact tolerance level as a OEM filter would. Plus Frams are the worst filters you can place on you car or bike... |

So I got this long story to go with this big problem.
Bought my first bike from my friend about 1 month ago. 1995 Ninja ZX-6r. Have it for a few days, driving one day, park it, come back to turn it on, and nothin happens. Bike is in neutral, push ignition, and sometimes i would hear a click, and thats it. So I hang out for a bit, just going through the gears. Then I just push the bike in first gear and slowly let out clutch. Finally, after about 5 mins, the bike starts up. Drive home, and everything is fine. Sometimes the bike starts up just fine, sometimes, it does the same thing. However, the other day, I was riding, and I couldn't get my bike out of gear. It felt like I blew the transmission or something, the only gears I could feel it click into were 4th and 5th. Since I couldn't get it in Neutral, I couldn't get it started, So I started pushing it home while holding in the clutch the whole way. Every 10 or so steps, I would try and click it into neutral, and finally, about halfway home, I got it in neutral and started it right up. And this morning, I went to go start it just to see, and it worked just fine. Anyone have any idea on what is wrong???? Please let me know. Thanks! John |

Two things I'd look at or have checked would be the starter lockout switch and the side stand switch. Either could mimic your complaints, although I would suspect the lockout switch first because you should be able to start your bike with it in gear while holding the clutch lever in.
