i shut my bike off and it was at about 210 deg.F and about 5 min later when i turned it back on to leave it was at 228 deg.F as soon as i turned the bike on it cooled down to about 212 deg.F. Just wondering if its normal that the bike got that hot after i shut it off?

Do yourself a favor and go 1 down 2 up in the back you'll love it, bike will still go its designated top speed of 170mph roughly...but it will be much quicker. If you want to do just the front sprocket thats also fine but i would reccomend doing both, on ebay they sell 520 chain conversion, 1 down, 2 up with the xring chain for 160 shipped to your door(its well worth it) |

Just purchased yesterday. Anyone know what the stock gearing should be? I'm using it to commute, and it appears as if the speedo is way off. Says I'm doing 60+, and I'm right along side traffic in a 40 zone. Seems very low geared also. Stop light to stop light, I'm all the way up in 6th, and at 5k rpm. In Phoenix (100+ degrees already), and it's running 210-215 degrees. That sound about right?
Also, what's an oil change going to run me? Is it something I can do myself? I've been on dirt bikes for 20+ years. |

If you did the oil on your dirt bike, you can certainly do the oil on your street. Especially if you have the manual. Really nothing to it. And the temp sounds about right. I live in Phoenix, also. Most speedometers on bikes are about 5-8 mph off as you go up the scale. But reading 60 in a 40 is a bit much. Get someone with a GPS on a straight stretch (it has to be straight!) or a friend to pace you in a car.

I'm having a power loss at medium to high rev in high gear. Specifically, losing power at 6000 rpm in 6 gear hitting about 100. Has been running well, I synced the carbs about 6 months ago.
Definitely running not as smooth, even in lower gears. Any ideas before I pull the carbs and clean and re-sync them? TIA

So if I go down 1 in front, up 2 in back, I need the 520 chain?
Thanks. Quote:

while burnung your old tires you are also burning your tranny oil gets overheated and expands it finds a place to seep or blow out of .... 1 of only several reasons stunters go through bikes so quickly good luck destroying yours

i have a 1994 zx7, starts and runs perfectly, about 5-10mins of running perfectly it drops the fire to two cylinders, swap coils, same cyls breakdown, no fire. wait 5-10 mins and it starts/runs good again, then the breakdown cycle returns. some people say the ignitiion control modules are known to go, but @ $800+15%tx I dont want to guess.
anyone have any insight and/or resistance specs for the control module? any help would be appriciated... no replies of any significance, cant find a kawasaki manual on-line for DL anywhere, ordered OEM manual from dealer, will scan and post for others, but until i finish scanning if anyone has any questions regarding 1994 Kawasaki ZX-7, i can copy the parts/info they need... not much, but all i can do for now. Anyone adjusted the valves on a ZX-9R? I've taken the carbs out, re-synced, and haven't found the reason for my power loss at high rev, high gear. It's not losing the clutch and shooting up, it's just not going any faster and slows RPM increase to a crawl. So the next thing I'm looking to do is adjust the valves. Since I'm a fair mechanic, I'm looking to do it myself, but wanted to check for war stories before starting. Any hints? TIA

Hello to all and thanks for looking...
I recently purchased a 2001 zx6r and was a bit disappointed about the lack of a solid website to buy parts (or maybe just disappointed that I couldn't find one out there) Currently I'm in need of a few pieces, some more significant than others. List: Set of body panels Set of sissy bars that sit behind rear seat either an integrated tail light kit or a pair of fender eliminator turn signals Set of flushmount front turn signals frame sliders (if they exist for an 01 zx6r) If anyone has a site they recommend or can tell me where to purchase these parts I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks! |

I am a newbie to the kawi. world and just ended up running across this 96 with 4900 miles and got it for 1000.00. Has a new house of colors ORANGE (yuk) paint though. My only problem is that it seems to only run on 3 cylinders. Is there any thing obvious that go wrong on these bikes that I can check.
