i have a 07 zzr600 and the clutch lever has no tension...can anybody help me figure this problem out? it doesnt look to be a broken cable or loose cable bc the cable when pulled it moves the lever by the engine, there is just no tension when i go to pull it... the lever also goes back to its original spot...help!!!!

i have a 04 zx636 and the valve train(i think) sounds like someone dumped marbles in it... tapping or knocking no sure what but its loud... just bought the bike in feb with 16k on it and got a receipt from a reputable local shop that said they put a manual cam tensioner on along with a 15k service... new ngk plugs, air filter, etc... ive done two oil changes and had to burp the oil filter both times to get the oil pres light out... my question is about the knocking/tapping/marbles... is this normal for a 636... or should i worry?

Hey guys. I just picked up an 84 zx900 and I had a few questions. I'm handy with tools and I mess with cars all the time but this is my first hands on bike. How do you check/change the coolant? Oil? Filter location? And is there anything else I need to worry about before I put her on the highway? These things were supposedly checked by my uncle's mechanic however I want to double check them anyway since I will be commuting about 60 miles a day with her. Thanks in advance!!!!

Cam chain tensioner. Tighten it, and make sure it's locked in place when you're done.

Default Tire Options for a 2004 ZX-6R

Something tells me that this question has come up quite a few times based on what I have found today. - But if someone has access to the service manual, or just knows, - what are the other options that are available for tires (front and rear) on a 2004 ZX-6R?

- Right now, I have the Bridgestone Battlax BT012R 180/55 R17 on the rear. - I need to replace this tire - but can't find it anywhere without paying through the nose.

Trying to get a download copy of the manual to find out as I did have one and it listings for two other tires sets that are recommended for the bike. - I think they were Michelins and Pirelli's.

Thanks.

I don't know that you can go wrong with about any tire make for your bike in the 180/55; Michelin, Pirelli, Dunlop, Bridgestone, and others all make excellent replacement tires.
Also, the popularity of these tires generally dictates aggressive pricing on them. I think you shouldn't be paying over $150 max for any of them; possibly as low as $130. I don't know what area you are in, but check your local bike shops (if there are any); do you have a CycleGear close? There are dozens of online merchants if none of the above are avaiable to you.
Another possibility is buying used; check the classifieds in your local sportbike forums if that's an option for you.

Thanks for the reply. - I agree that you probably couldn't go wrong with any of the brands, - but even within the 180/55 sizes there are so many options. - Was hoping if I someone had access to the Manufacturer's suggestions, - I could narrow my search. In the this case, - it's a (BT012R) 180/55ZR-17 (M/C) Bridgestone Battlax on the rear - and it' composite match on the front. - If someone has the owner's manual for this bike, - I think the info may be in there.

Without being able to locate the exact rear (without paying $300+) dollars, - I had originally downloaded a manual (which I can't find now) that listed two other matches and tire sets and tire manufacturers for this specific bike.

So, it probably doesn't matter too much, - I just can't get out of my head that the specific answer is out there.

Thanks.

IMHO:
636=much better street bike,
6R = much better race bike.

I know this is over-simplification, but it's pretty much what the 'argument' boils down to. FWIW, if you consider a 636, I'd try to confine it to either the '05 or '06 models; I think these were the best. Mainly due to the suspension upgrades.
Starting in '07, Kawasaki made the 6R a more track-focused bike, and that trend has continued. Now, I cannot dispute that the newer engine has more power, and, on paper, "beats" the 636 motor. But, in real-world application, the extra torque provided by the extra displacement works much better in typical street riding.
I'm sure there are other benefits of the newer models as well, such as more areodynamic bodywork, frame, chassis, and brake refinements/upgrades, but none that translate to a better "all-arounder".

GREAT STUFF ABOUT THE 09' - Sport Rider Magazine, Middleweight Comparison Test

"Usually the track portion of the comparison is a closer subjectively, but the new ZX-6R blew everyone out of the water this time."

"The powerplant is not only the strongest on the dyno (even over the 675cc Triumph), but its quick-revving character translates to fierce acceleration all the way from the beefy midrange to its screaming top-end."

"The ZX-6R is so exhilerating that it doesn't seem in the same class with the others."

MORE - Motor Cyclist Magazine, Class of 09' (Kawasaki ZX-6R, Ducati 1198, Honda CBR-600, Suzuki GSX-R1000, Yamaha R1)

"Excepting Ducati's 1198, there's not a racier bike in this bunch, and even that's a close call."

"This ZX-6R pulls so hard off the corners that we had to check the tailsection decal to be sure Kawi hadn't slipped us another 636cc cheater."

"And the rev-hungry inline-four delivers glorious high-rpm power that has you grinning in your helmet at every corner exit."

Quick question, I have a '97 ZX6E and she rides great, but when I get home to drive the bike into the garage, I have to drive up the driveway which is at about a 45 degree incline. I stop the bike to open the garage and as I start up the hill in 1st she cuts out and won't start again. This has happened twice in the past 3 days. Any helpful info would be greatly appreciated.

Love it I think when I checked I was getting about 48 per gallon if that sounds right...now this was my 2004, I have only had my 2006 for a day and I questioned my first calculatoin of 40 MPH but then again, I was truly enjoying our maiden voyage through some good sweepers and turns so 40 might be accurate on a day like today. I usually fill up at 140 tho, I am too much of a wuss to go past it or to ignore the light.

I can't agree more. I LOVE the 636 and yes the 2006 is a tremendous improvement from the 2004. I am sad that 2006 was the last year, what a shame. The 636 is the best street bike out there ...but just my humble opinion... It did however fabulously n the track as well and that was my 2004. I repeatedly lapped all but one other rider by the end of the day, even a GSXR 1000 over and over again (much to his dismay and his buddies delight) and after my day long ride on my 2006 today I can only imagine what more she can do on the track. I don't know much about the mechanics or why she is an amazing bike but I can ride and I can agree that this is just hands down one of the best bikes ever built.
