Im purchasing an '88 Ninja 600 from a friend and have a few questions concerning interchanging parts from other year bikes. My bike is gonna need some body work (some cracks, some mounting holes need reinforcing) thats not too hard for me, what I do need though is new panels on both sides where the petcock for the fuel is (best I could describe as I dont know if theres a name for this piece). He said they were covered in vinyl matching the seat, but he bought the bike without them there from someone else. From all the searching I've doen thus far, noone seems to make any replacement panels for this year. Occasionally I can stumble across some body parts for 89, 90, and 91 but not 88, also theres a ton of body panels and things available for an 88 500. Are any of these of any use to me or are there large differences in body shape/style between models and years? Id also like to find some flush mount turn signals to match the rear ones he put on (clear preferably) Any replies are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

After searching some pics on www.bikepics.com I think I've determined the panels I need didnt change at all from 88 to 97. Now I just need to find some being sold somewhere...

New to the forum. Got a 99 9R late last year. Did a search but didn't see anything.
A lil history on problem: Cable started to stretch, got hard to get into gear & neutral. Adjusted at lever, things seemed okay for a while then problem returned. Then I adjusted at the clutch case. Worked fine for a while then the problem persisted so new cable was ordered (#54011) Installed new cable (old one had frayed) but had to adjust the new one to max at both lever & case ends to get it to dissengage. Now it won't change gears and there's no more adjustment left. Seems like the cable is too long, when fully depressed, I can manually move it another 1" which tells it's not fully dissengaging. Company assures me this is the right cable. Also the return spring for the release lever is broken so I ordered one from my local shop (inturn they order it from Kawasaki, 1 week wait). Now this spring beside returning the clutch release shaft also prevents it from coming out of the case, correct ? Why does this cable seem too long? My 1st thought was that the clutch release shaft had turned some how cause I was assured the cable was correct. Kawasaki website confirmed. I'm at a point that I'm about to fabricate an extention at the case to get it to work. Any ideas? Thanx! |

Whats up everyone? I just started playin with an 88 Ninja 600R. Its not my first bike, but it is my first street bike. When I got it it had been sitting for a number of years, since 99 maybe, so I cleaned the carbs, changed the oil, changed the plugs and wires, and flushed the coolant. Its missing the boots between the carbs and the airbox so, I just pulled the airbox out and im going to put individual filters on. Anyways, my problem is when I start the bike, its very hard to start and I have to push start it a lot of the time. After I finally get it started the bike will not run above 7K. When it gets to 7 it just dies. If I give it wide open throttle it will not run, it bogs down and stalls. Low end power is basicly non existant. My question is, would this be due to open carbs or by chance is something else wrong? Am I going to need to rejet? I pulled the plugs out and they're not fouled and I also pulled the carbs back off and recleaned them. I need some suggestions.

Hi,
a while back I adjusted (tried to tune) the settings for my front forks. Problem is I have lost the piece of paper where I kept the original settings, so I can't return to original and start playing again. Anyone know the original set up? Even better, has anyone got any setting suggestions ? to pre-empt... I am 195 lbs ride on road, medium sporty style. any and all feedback appreciated. Thanks SL |

Go to www.sportrider.com and check out the "tech" and "suspention" spots. I think they might have the recommended settings for different bikes there. The "recommended" might work better for ya than the stock ones anyway.

does the 88 600r still have gas in it from back in 99? if so I would pull the tank and drain it, then refill her with some good 93 and then give her a shot at running. After you refill the bike just let her run for awhile outside.
anything from 88-97 im sure will fit. The side panels you can buy oem if you want on bikebandit.com but im sure on ebay you can find them soon or later.

I paid $7700 for the 05 zx6-r (w/o tax, title, license) then I got 10% off on any accessory I bought that day, along with a 4yr extended warranty.
Later on, I seen an add in a cycle focus magazine that was selling for $7400 before tax, title, and license. |

I'm having my oil changed this weekend and it will have a little over 6k miles on it. What are the advantages of synthetic oils? Would it be okay to change to synthetic at this point? Do most people recommend Mobil 1? Thanks

I was wondering if anyone has had luck with the Datatool DiGi - digital gear indicator. Also, is there a place online to buy one? Thanks.
