the zzr600 started in 2003 in the us i think. you may be thinking of the zx-6 as opposed to the zx-6r for the 90's. |

Do the new ZZR 600's have the same cowlings as the older ZX6r's?
I LOVE THIS BIKE!!!! My first time riding a bike was on Saturday in the MSF course. I bought my new bike on Saturday afternoon and Sunday took it out after I completed the MSF course. IT"S AWESOME!! A 600cc isn't so bad to go to for your first bike, but that's just my opinion. I'm glad I didn't go lower cuz this one is the perfect speed for me. It's comfortable too!! =D It's sporty, yet classifed as touring so my insurance is lower!!! For my first bike I know I made the right decision!! ![]() |

similar cowling, but different enough to not be interchageable. if u notice the mirror bracket on the zzr 05-06 is also the guage mount, where as the zx6r had a cage type support. (just to point out one.) most of the accesories are interchangeable though. if your not sure, ask.. any kawi dealer should know. and if your dealer doesn't, ask me n i'll look it up. I'm at a dealership in nj. |

Hey all, new rider here as well. I took the MSF course this past weekend, and had a lot of fun while learning a ton. Went in having never rode a bike before and by the end of it I was pretty comfortable. Anyhow, I went and bought an '05 ZX-R on monday

i'd say its a matter of compfort. im 5'6 n i ride the same bike. at stock height, i can plant one foot which is enough for me. i chose not to lower the bike b/c it changes the handeling. you can't turn as low without hitting the foot pegs. if u wanna try it out, get the lowering links that are adjustable from stock height to 2" drop and 4" drop. that way, if u dont like the ride, you can change it later. the only catch is that once u cut your sidestand, you have to replace it to go up to full height.
good luck

It was a kawasaki lowering link that supposedly works for all 98+ models ZX6/9/12's. It didn't cost me a dime because I bought the bike brand new, was worked into the deal.. I recall the guy saying that if I wanted to do it at a later time they'd have to charge me installation which would be more expensive than the link itself..

Someone said $8k for a ZX-6R would be a great deal. I visited a dealership and it was the sales guy's last day and he didn't care if he practically gave a bike away. He said he could probably get me close to $8k. Bikes aren't like cars where you can shave off $2k and drive it home...unfortunately

I got approved today for my zzr600, which I hope to get by the end of the month. I plan on getting a full face helmet, nylon saddle bags and a jacket. Any suggestions on what kind of jacket to get being its getting cool quickly.
Also, what kind of helmets do you wear?(full face that is) Thanks, JB |

Really, any jacket w/ Thinsulate liner will be a great jacket to wear when it gets cold. I have a Joe Rocket jacket & ninja636billy wears an Icon jacket. Both are great brands. I'm switching to an Alpinestars in the spring because my buddy's boss will give me cost pricing... I personally use the Alpinestars gloves (SP2/leather & S-MX/mesh) and they work great to keep your hands protected & warm while riding. My helmet is a Fulmer (DOT approved, not Snell) but I'm also looking into getting their higher line helmet because it is Snell rated.

Thanks for the info guys,
I learned from riding quads below 30 degrees that you need either leather or ski gloves. I saw jackets at the dealer with liners and padding starting at $100. Helmets, I was looking at the Fulmers, some of them looked sharp but wasn't familiar with that name. Nice bike ninja636 and dropdfocus, I saw a mid 80's kz 550 in the paper in cincinnati for $ 600. Ride safe, JB |
