I guess i can support that... i mean... i can't wear a jacket here in Texas while riding in the city... I'd be more likely to pass out of dehydration or have a heat stroke than hit a car or whatever else.

You gotta weigh the issues.

Wear your gear...90 yesterday in Norcal and I was full gear...I rode home through the twisties...No way am I looking like Freddy Krueger after a crash...Two crashes and no hard on my body.

We have a thread on 10R with people who wore no gear and it is ugly.

When I see someone with no gear I know they do not really ride hard.

Frankly speaking,
Riding without a full face helmet is tantamount to a headless exercise.
Riding without the skins is tantamount to catering to Victorias Secret
Riding without proper boots is tantamount to being cheap, if not scandalous.
-----------------
My Sidi boots have spurs with a lil motocross wheel, my own mod.
I am trying to get a huge pair of stag horns to put on the bikes and patent it (Dusk n Dawn use).

I am seeking advise as to how to get the pipes to back fire upon command. I already have a flame thrower on the pipes on one of my bikes.

I've got nothing to give me protection from meth queens and drunkards except perhaps doing a wheelie and spook the sh&% outta them since they are so paranoid, ain't that beautiful or what?

Any further help from an arms dealer would be appreciated.
Best,
Mike

So basically you feel that anyone not doing exactly as you do, is somehow wrong.

That makes me laugh.....there is no right or wrong in how we all dress....just different choices is all.

If you want to wear 18 jackets, 14 pairs of pants, 9 pairs of gloves, and 7 helmets on a ride, go for it.
Also if you wear enough to meet the requirements of the law in your area, go ahead and do that to.

Just ride and have fun....stop worrying so much about having the right coat, with the right armour, and the brand name helmet etc.

Up to you what you wear when you ride. I personally gear up no matter how long or short the ride is.

I crashed my first street bike 18 years ago. 45mph crash, I still carry the road rash scars on my back and left arm. If I would have been wearing a jacket I would have never had to make that trip to the E.R, Would not have had to deal with the pain of road rash and I would not have the scars.

Nobody can tell you what to wear or how to ride, just be ready to accept the concenquences

ive been wearing full gear all summer, 95 degree heat and near 100% humidity, Cali aint got nothin' on the Mississippi summers! and i know, i used to live in Sacramento! 114 degrees there is a cakewalk compared to 95 + humidity here. even the deserts of Arizona are pretty easy to deal with...its a dry heat! LOL

i dont think the heat is a good excuse for people not to wear gear...it prevents sunburn, when you sweat and the wind blows through your gear you cool off much better, and you dont dehydrate as quickly.

i still say ATGATT for me...but its still a person's choice. you can lead a horse to water, but you cant make him drink!

The protection your gear offers you is a greater chance to come away from a accident with more of your parts attached and functioning. Oh, BTW do what you want but you'll only have one chance to make a mistake.

IMO, reconsider the no helmet item as you need your melon the rest of your life but if you lose a few fingers, meh, not so bad, right?

Also be sure to wear full gear in your car, and if you ride a bus wear full gear, and insist they install seatbelts on it for you....one can never be to safe.
Oh, also stop showering, do you have any idea how many slip and falls there are in them things.

+1...If you have ever been in a crash and looked at your gear afterwards, you can just only imagine what skin and bone looks like after a 15 mph crash...At that slow of a speed my fairly new ICON jacket with armor was rendered useless.

Amen brother...Just go to a track and watch a crash and see most people walk away with sprains...You will rarely see cuts...That is why you gear up.

i went with textile...Icon Arc jacket and pants. actually have leather on the arms/shoulders of the jacket. just ordered a teknic chicane leather jacket...good price so i couldnt pass it up! when i get some leather pants i can zip them together for a suit too but yea...when riding its not so bad. but when i get stuck at stoplights for too long it can get sweltering! sweat in the eyes sucks! LOL

i watch Moto GP and Superbike racing all the time. those guys go down at 100 MPH, slide, maybe roll a little. most just get up and walk away with some bruises. which is why im starting to get some all leather gear together. the textile stuff is great, but i want to have a full leather set as well for other occasions such as track days or twisty ridin'!

ive seen road rash scars first hand. i do NOT want that to happen to me! i also have a scar on my knee from falling down on asphalt when i was a kid. just running, tripped, and hit my knee and i have a life-long scar. i think about hitting the pavement at 45 MPH and think how bad that would be. no thank you!

I have always been a believer in wearing gear.

My uncle, who is a very seasoned rider both on and off-road, for whatever reason chose not to wear his full gear one day. He was riding on a very familiar road and by chance hit a random patch of oil in the middle of a turn. Although he is an excellent rider he was unable to keep the bike up and ended up with a lot of skin missing, 2 fractured ribs and a broken collar bone. His helmet literally saved his life, and had he had his full gear on would not be in as bad as condition.

Although he can ride his street bike again the accident will cause him to miss most of his dirt bike racing season.

I definitely wouldn't find myself on my dirt bike while racing without all of my gear on, riding on the road is no different and can have the same uncontrollable circumstances. And honestly IMO, riding on the street is much more dangerous then on the dirt/trails. Last I checked, trees don't jump out in front of you, you aren't going extreme speeds and usually have something soft to land on when dirt bike riding, and still wear full protective gear.

Wearing gear doesn't harm anything.

All that said though, ultimately it is up to each individual to make their own choices.

Here In Atlanta I see about 7/10 riders wearing helmets and 2/10 wearing jackets/gloves/Etc. Its mostly helmet plus t shirt and shorts.

I'll fess up - I'm a puss. When I came off my left glove came apart and exposed the outside of my palm to the track. I had two 1" scrape where the track basically sanded off the skin almost to the muscle. The next day we went to the ER to check my elbow and they cleaned up my palm. They dug out a chunk of rock! I missed it somehow, did I mention being a puss? I didnt want to dig around and see what was in the goodie bag.

So yeah - I wear my gear and I'm pretty picky about what gear I do wear. I really don't want my gloves or anything else failing me.

But you have the right to ride however you want. However, you can't control the judgement of other people based on how you appear. To me - the guys I see tearing around on Gixxers, R6s, and ZX6s without gear - they look like... well, like organ donors.

You want to ride w/o gear - rock on. Just please register as an organ donor.
