I just bought a used 1982 Spectre 550. I went to the DMV today to take my riders test when I lined up for the pylon weave test I stalled the bike and it would not start unless I push started it.
I did drop it (gently mind you) befre this on the same side as the starter switch. Anyway, for the life of me I do not know why the start button would not function. The battery had plenty of juice. After I passed the test, I took the bike home and parked it for a couple hours. I checked on it later and it still did not start. (did not crank at all). I took apart the kill/start switch to see if there was anything wrong. Everything looked ok. Before I put the switch back together, I tried starting it again. vroom! Started right up. I think it was a loose connection but I'm not sure. Anybody else have this problem? |

I'm having a similar problem with my '03 ZX-6RR. Mind you it took a slightly harder fall
I have shorter clipp-ons and the starter switch was zip tied up near the speedo and took a pretty good beating. I can turn the ignition on and hear the fuel pump working but nothing happens when I hit the starter. I'm pretty sure its the starter switch cause the lap timer (which is mounted on the same assembly) won't work either. I haven't tried push starting it yet but I may try that this weekend. I have the new starter switch assembly on order (ebay is a racer's friend). |
