Default anyone had their bike inspected by CHP?

Just wondering if anyone in california had to get bike inspected by the CHP and if you have any idea of what the are looking for or at?

Have to get my bike inspected and all the smog equipment is gone, is that one of the things they are going to be looking for, or is it just basically making sure all the numbers match up an the bike isn't stolen?

Why do they want to inspect it?

Bike dropped out of the DMV system. DMV did a VIN verification then said that the DMV person who did the inspection "wasn't qualified to finish the inspection". They seemed to not be able to give me a clear answer as to why the bike needed to be inspected by the CHP, just that it did.

I really don't know what they are doing, not even sure if they know what they are doing. Two days before the manager said I just had to bring it to the DMV to get VIN verified, now they are changing the story. I really hate the DMV.

They also mentioned that since the bike dropped out of the system that they weren't sure if it was salvaged or not, but I don't know how the CHP is suppose to be able to determine that either.

All the vin numbers matched, so I don't know what else they would be looking for. The bike is already insured, insurance company had no problems pulling up the vin.

I seriously doubt the CHP would be able to determine anything about it being a salvage, and don't think they would put a whole lot of effort into it.

If your VINs match, and you got all the trash installed to make it street legal I wouldn't think you would have anything to worry about.

They CHP is only going to be able to determine if your bike is legal: headlights, turn signals, exhaust, tires, etc.

If you're worried about them checking for the emmissions box, get some plastic box, stick a couple of rubber tubes in it. Put the box where the OEM box would be, and then run the hoses in the direction of the tank and have them disappear somewhere, the LEO won't know the difference.

Yeah, the DMV is one helluva place to deal with.

I can verify the morons at DMV are not qualified to change the toilet paper in the men's room. I had to have mine re registered and the woman who inspected it could not find the serial number on the frame (My bike did not have one on the frame) and she then claimed the bike was stolen...... even though I produced every year's registration from when it was brand new as well as the original sales papers with my name on every one.

She finally signed it off after a heated screaming encounter but she walked away screaming that she "knew the bike was stolen".

I swear I am not making that up.

DMV can only push paperwork and handle driver testing.
CHP does all mechanical/safety inspections for the DMV.

Glad to hear it's changed. Back around 1987 was when I had to re-register mine after "salvage" and the DMV definitely was doing the inspections to certify road worthiness. Kind of like asking a tuna to write a paper on astro physics.

Ya, but even pushing their paperwork may as well be nuculur fizziks when it comes to their mental capacity.
