gonna get a 10

I'm trying to decide which bike to get... the ZX6, or the 10. I'm thinking the 10 is just too much power for my lightweight 155 lb.body...but then again, I ride responsibly. I don't need that much power, but I like the ZX-10. I'm also trying to decide if I'm really experienced enough to own a liter bike. I rode when I was younger, and I started back riding about a year ago on my 250 that I got from my best friend. He says I ride too conservative to worry about the power, and reminds me that I like the 10 better anyway. I then argue that the 6 is adequate performance, and is the proper "step" in working your way up to a bigger bike. I ride my other friends GSXR 1000 no problem, and it is oddly weird that I am worried about having a big bike. I see, read, and hear about so many horror stories, that it has me in a paranoid state. What do you think? I'm also trying to consider the hassle of trading the 6 in, a few months later..for the 10.
Oh and Eidian... thanks for the input, I will definitely keep that in mind. I made this a new topic because I did'nt want to take away from the other posting about the undertail exhaust. Also, your bike is awesome **drool** Last edited by CKRider : 10-05-2008 at 11:42 AM. Reason: adding information |

Well... think of it this way... insurance on the 10 is MUCH higher as well... SO if you don't plan on using all that power, you would save yourself some decent cash if you don't get the 10. Then again if $$$ is no problem, then why not get the bigger "more shiny" one.

what is going to be the major purpose of the bike?
mostly commuting? the 10 you don't have to downshift to go somewhere in a hurry if you need to. not the buzzy feeling of being in a lower gear to have that power. mostly for carving corners or track use? the 600 would be a much better bike like he said about insurance, I'm sure the 600 would be much cheaper.

I agree with what zedx11 said.
But if in doubt, get them both. That's it. End of story. Lock the thread and make it a sticky.

lol I probably would do the track thing once I have my new bike. I love the acceleration rush, but there is no way I'll do it on public roads. The police around here show no mercy what-so-ever. They don't even look at me though on the 250, weird...it being here-I-am green and all...lol.

If you're going to a dragstrip, the 10 would be more fun in a straight line--if you go to a racetrack but are not concerned with shorter track times (just going there to have fun going as fast as you can in a safe environment), then get the 10R. I firmly believe that the litre complaints of how heavy they are and how "un-flickable" they are are myths; my Z1 is by no means a SuperSport but with the new 180 that I have in the rear, the Z1 is as flickable on Angles Crest as the 500R was/is. I don't know about you but when I added my Z1 to my policy with the 500R, my rate went up $53 for the year for liability and uninsured motorists (I decided that my bikes are throw aways if I cause an accident). I said that for everyone else's edification--I know that you said that insurance isn't an issue. 10R...10R...10R!

Well I would be the one to tell you to get the 10r right? After all, I got one,....
lol I agree with Zed above. The 10r is more fun on the street. If you are looking at a new bike, there is very little difference in weight and I can tell you from riding mine that it is plenty "flickable". It is a different animal from the 600 altogether though. I wish I could find the right words to explain the difference. The power is not scary at all after you ride it a few times. I wouldn't be worried about that. It is more a choice of preference than one of actual performance. I like the bigger bike because it is less work in normal commutes. No downshifting and high revving most of the time and plenty of power on tap if I ever get the itch to twist the stick a bit. Definitely a personal choice. I think I like my 10r as much for the conversations it starts as I do for the actual performance. I don't ride it very hard most of the time. (just for reference, lol) Take care, Robert

Get a 10R...Commuting wise, a bigger bike is easier to handle...Twisties a 600 wins...People will say this and that about a 1000 but unless you have ridden both, some is just hearsay. Anyone who owns a 1000 will tell you commuting is soooo much better...600 has its place as well but judging by what you said, it is much smarter to get a 1000 than to get a 600 and regret it. Let a friend a on bigger bike let you try and then make the decision.

If you are looking specifically at the Kawis. One point is height. You said you only weigh 155 so I will ask how long the legs are. I am 5'9" and until I lowered the rear shock, I was all up on my toes.
Of course I took it down a couple pegs and it not only sits better, but handles better as well so that is only relevant. I agree with Ervins. Find a friend with a 1000 and beg them for a test ride. Or better yet, find a dealer who will let you test one (I know, not likely). I have always been a "big bike" sort of guy. My dad had a v-65 when I first started riding and I loved riding it. I have always wanted something big, hairy, and fast since then, lol. Take care, Robert

Well I am 6 foot and sort of long legged. I sat on the 10 at the dealer and I can flat-foot it no problem..it is a good feeling bike too. I like the brawny feel of it. I will admit that I am kinda checkin out the Duc 848 as well. No local dealer around here though...might be a good thing. That bike is gorgeous.

three bikes totaled.
Crash #1 should have replaced that front tire. would have cost me way less than it did after I crashed and it was totaled. Crash#2 shouldn't have taken the corner for the on ramp as fast as I did after the storm, there was construction at the intersection and lots of sand was washed into that corner. had I been going slower I would have seen the sand and been able to make the adjustments through the turn and either missed it or straightened up and went through without crashing. Crash #3 don't remember to this day over 2 years later exactly what happened but I do know that I had already decided to slow down since it was a new bike and new road. going back it was a decreasing left hander that switched to off camber.
