Arrow Thoughts for Upgrades... 05 zx6r 636

Hey guys, I just traded in my cruiser i got last year for a 2005 636 ninja.. Black and titanium.

The only thing thats been done to it is a aftermarket cruise ( we have **** tons of straight / flat boring roads in ND ) and some white led's in the fairing.

The bike came with brand new rubber. and has 7900 miles on it with over a year of warranty left.

What is worth looking into for this particular supersport besides a steering damper? It's rained for 3 days straight, so i've yet to ride it more then 5 miles but didnt notice anything i really didnt like about the bike.

Well,

it depends why you want to upgrade and what you will be using the bike for.

If you want to upgrade it for "bling" purposes, hell, you can do whatever you want to it!

If you want to upgrade it for functional purposes, it depends what you want out of the bike.

I have the same bike and I've taken it to the track as well, and I don't think it needs a steering damper at all. Steering dampers are for whimps anyway

The only 2 "functional" upgrades I've done to my bike have been stainless steel-braided brake lines (to reduce / eliminate brake fade after long use) and a smaller front sprocket (- 1 tooth) for increased acceleration.

I also bought a Leo Vince aftermarket can, but that was only for bling

If you ride fast get a damper. If you want to be heard get an exhaust. If you need comfort get some rearsets. If you want to bling a bike, start buying and watch that bank account diminish.

Whats with the Rearsets? I havn't heard of those before. The bike will be mainly for just cruising around the twisties of the 10,000 lakes and the city of Fargo. So nothing to demanding, Where do you guys go for aftermarket parts for exhast / bling / new air box's ect? I've googled them and i cant find things.

I would say steel braided lines, a brembo MC, slip on and powo are like the bare min to have a good clean fun bike. And some sticky tires!! =)

You said cruising...Then rearsets are what you want. They are your footpegs/ brake/ shifter components for your feet. Adjustable ones allow you to raise or lower, move forward or back your feet position. Very nice if you ride long rides or just want a more aggressive position as well without sacraficing reach. My rearsets are high middle.

+1...People on this forum downplay tires huge. Tires are a good part of the upgrades. Remember it is all that separates you and the road.

Lines are good...MC is expensive as is exhaust but they serve a purpose depending again on what you want.

Yea, I'll fork out extra money and sacrifice shorter tire life for a nice sticky tire any day! I was just tryin to throw out some good parts with huge functionability plus blinage ex. brembo and pipe If it were my 'new' bike only things i'd be getting right off the bat would be full ohlins, front steel lines, and new tires!!

Yeah the 636 would do well with tires, lines, and suspension (expensive tweak)...To go fast you need tires, brakes, and suspension...Engine is a whole different league.

Before I did my 1000RR calipers swap to my 10R, Brembo MC billet 19x20, FrenTubo lines, Vesrah pads, and Repsol fluid, braking on my bike was a nightmare...Uncontrolled and a pain on very fast twisties and fast runs in general...Once I did that major upgrade to my whole front brakes, it was like I was on a new bike...

Again people will talk about stock this and that...But yes, there are huge differences depending on what you want to do to your bike to make it perform the way you want it to or get the performance you desire.

Rearsets helped me as it put my knees higher up and gave me a more aggressive ergo when riding the bike. It felt right for me. But since you said cruising, you will appreciate rearsets. Before putting them on though do dry runs then put loctite.
