When my DH rode cross-country, he used Aspercreme Rub every night before bed. Said he didn't hurt the next morning.

I agree with those who recommend a shake-down ride. Go out for a 200-mile ride one day.

And do stop for lunch. You'll need it to refuel yourself and give your mind a rest so you'll stay alert.

Have a great time and take pics to post here when you get back.

Thanks for all the advice. The trip is getting closer! I've been checking into routes and so far I think I'm going up A1A to St. Augustine, then route 1 to Jacksonville (the maps are at my office and I'm at home so, not exactly sure what I printed) then 95 to Kingsland GA (probably stay overnight). The next morning I'll head to Savannah and then up 17 to SC.

It makes for a longer trip, but I think I'm going to try and stay off the Interstate as much as possible. And if I do it in two days I can spend a few hours in Savannah.

Sunblock is a must, I'm a natural red head and don't mess with the sun. Been burnt way too many times as a kid and now I'm pretty smart when it comes to protection.

LOL!! I feel your pain. I just tell people about the song the 80s band Foreigner wrote about me, "'Cause I'm a pasty white booooyyyy....."

Nail's comment about sunblock is a good one.

I went on a practice ride this morning. I was going to ride an hour then stop for a rest and ride back home. But, got into the ride and before I knew it I had been on the bike for two hours. I stopped at the 2 hour mark and had a 7-up and headed back home. I was on the bike for a total of 3 hours and suprisingly enough it didn't kill me. I'm very happy that I had my seat customized, I'm sure the old seat would have been rough. Also, forgot there was a race in Daytona this weekend, pretty heavy traffic in Daytona and New Smyrna for the 4th. But, still had a great ride.

Excellent! In my experiences lately I found 1 1/2-2 hrs then stop then 1-1 1/2 hrs for the next stop then about every hr after that. It's not so much a butt rest as a rehydration stop b/c as the day wears on and the temperature rises more and more fluids are needed. I found I don't feel nearly as worn out when I get there by doing this.
