After riding them all......it was a no brainer.

Taken any long trips 1000+ miles, how's that seat feel after a few hours ?

Oh and another questions (can you tell I'm getting serious about this bike ) -does the new Connie use 90+ octane like the big FI Vulcans ?

I too can identify. I have been a "Yamahore" for 30 years. I was bent on a FJR until a local Kaw dealer advised me to hang on a for a year. I had the money burning a hole in my pocket but I waited.

Boy am I glad I did. As far as I'm concerned Kawasaki has killed the witch with this bike. We aren't in Kansas anymore Toto...they may have totally changed the face of sport touring.

In any case, I think this bike is a significant improvement over the FJR...for me...for several reasons and it isn't just about power...albeit that's an important one.

I've had C14 on one 1000+ trip a couple weeks ago. I feared the seat might not work well but I was pleasantly surprised. It worked so well in fact I'm in no rush now to replace it.

Kawasaki recommends 91 octane or bad things will happen. I have no idea what. Maybe the sun will turn black and the ocean will dry up...or worse.

They recomend 91 in my ZRX1200 too...but I've burned tank after tank of 89 with no ill FX....YET...15,000 miles later. Of course I suppose the top of piston is paper thin by now ....but I doubt it. With only 10.5 to 1 it's just not that critical in my book. If either of these bikes had 12:1 pistons that would be an entirely different story.

We have three of the top ten "must ride" motorcycle roads in the US so I spend alot of time within 300 miles from home. The most I have done is 600 miles in a day on it. To me personally, my ZX14 seat if more comfortable. I like both the foam and vinyl on the ZX seat better. The good news is that you can swap the brackets on the underside and switch them out.

I run 93 octane in all my bikes. There have been a couple of fuel stops where they only had 89. I ran it and honestly could not tell the difference.

One of the key things for me was that the FJR would drag hard parts around damn near every corner. I want to be able to go faster and as low as I please without my center stand, exhaust, pegs , etc getting ground off.

I too am a Nomad owner, who now has the C14 bug. I already have a 06 GSXR 750, but really have the sportbike bug, and am thinking of trading in the Nomad for the C14, although my wife's comfort is of major concern.

If you can find a used C14 in your area, take her with you on a test ride. From the passenger perspective (my wife rides with me as well and I've changed bikes in the past just because she was uncomfortable) there is a HUGE difference between a cruiser and a sport touring bike. Seat comfort is the obvious one, but power delivery, braking, exhaust, knee angle, wind management, space between rider and passenger, and suspension all come in to play. I've learned this the hard way

Congrats!!!

I've had mine since July 17th and couldn't be happier. I haven't done any true "long distance" rides yet, but commuting back and forth to work (55miles) has become much more enjoyable.

I'm going to Biketoberfest in Daytona next month, so we'll experience a mid-distance ride then.

Again, congrats!
