Help requested for 04 Nomad fuel line problem
Just got back from a nice trip and now the fix up comes. Among the problems that came back with us is a problem with our Nomad’s fuel line. A Kawasaki dealer that we stopped at in New Hampshire suspected that the problem came from a reaction between the ethanol blend gas we’d put in when we entered the U.S. through Maine and the non ethanol Canadian gas that was already in the tank. We had thought just bad gas period because both the Kawasaki and our VTX were having the same problem and it had happened as soon as we gassed up in the U.S. but he said that he had been seeing this as a problem on work that came through his shop. Based on this we kept going but on roads that we could run more wide open on since flushing the fuel lines there and then possibly encountering the same thing when we crossed back into Canada made little sense.
Now that we’re back, the lines are flushed but the Nomad is still running like **** (oops).
Our Kawasaki dealer here has just closed this year and the dealerships left have great sales showrooms but we’ve been under whelmed by their service acumen so we’re here looking for advice on how to fix things ourself. That plus I just paid the shop I took it to for the fuel line flush that they did to fix it and it has done nothing noticeable. I don't care to bring it back to them so I guess I try it myself.
In general, what advice is out there?
In particular, what can I expect by changing the air filter? Tips and traps that I’ll encounter when I take it out and does it have to be changed or does cleaning it work? Note that parts will be a short term issue for the immediate repair so cleaning it until I can get one in will get me back on the road in the short tem until I can get one in..
The same is true for the fuel filter. Where is it and what can I expect in changing it? Also, if I have to wait to get the proper part, is it generic enough that an off the shelf filter will work in the absence of genuine Kawasaki parts?
Help me out here folks? I’m not great at turning a wrench but necessity says that I need to try if I want to ride in the next couple of days
