Default Finally Signed up for the MSF course

I FINALLY had the money to sign up for the MSF course in our area. And can finally get back to riding my bike after my Gallbladder issues. I have been out almost every nice day we have had and I am very excited about the course. I know you guys all stress the importance of it and I can't wait to take it. I also bought a mesh jacket with the armor in it, that should be in next week. I am finally taking the right steps to riding. A bit backwards, but I am getting there. The course is going to be the last weekend in July it was booked up until then.

It was the best thing I could have done for myself...good luck and I'm glad you you're able to do. I learned things in that class that I'll never forget and that I use every time I'm on the bike!!!

I just finished the class on June 10th. They give excellent instruction! A couple valuable hints my hubby taught me that helped..."the clutch is your best friend....the throttle is your 2nd best friend." Also, saddle time and lots of it! It would have been well worth the money if I had to pay (free in PA). You will get so much out of it. Good luck and ENJOY!

Good luck to you! enjoy the class...
I've been meaning to enroll in this class for the longest time, but unfortunately there is only one College that teaches it, and it gets full in like, a day. So if you don't arrive early the day enrollment starts... come back next semester!!!!
I'll keep trying!
Keep us posted!

Congratulations, Jackie. You're certainly going about things the right way. I have a mesh jacket with armor, too, and I feel SO much better protected wearing it.

CONGRATS!!!!!

I completed the class this past Sunday, picked up my new (used) bike on Monday!! I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooo glad I took that friggin class. Wish they offered a "Beginners Bring Your Own Bike" class.

I'd really like to do all the riding skills on my own bike, and under the MSR instructor's supervision. Oh well, guess I'll ride for a bit then take the experienced rider's class.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Fasher,
I don't know about what state you live in but PA does offer a one day advance riding class where you can use your own bike. They recommend it after you've completed the MSF beginners class.

I did it this past weekend. $325 for 4 days. Not cheap but like everyone else said, well worth it. And yes, they teach the ERC (experience riders course) around here too. It's a one day bring your own bike thing. But they recommend putting 3-5000 miles on your bike before taking it

As in Washington state? I just took mine a couple of weeks ago in Seattle where I live...

I LOVED the course and I think you all will too if you haven't taken it. I had ZERO experience with bikes prior to the course and now I feel like I know enough to comfortably get out and ride my local roads. That said, I had to retake my test at the end in order to get endorsed! LOL how embarassing. I was one of the more competent and comfortable riders in my 3-day class but I ended up getting VERY stressed out during the test when I found out the one manuever that really gave me problems was on it ( a 'box' move that is essentially a figure-8... hard left U-turn followed by hard right U-turn/swerve... I swerved out of bounds hehe)- and accordingly I got deducted big time on it. Unfortunately, I missed the passing grade by only one point but was asked to retake the test for free (thank god!). So, moral of the story- don't be stupid like me and stress out during your endorsement test!

One thing that one of the instructors told us as we left- 'Congratulations. You now officially can ride a 250cc bike in a parking lot!' No doubt his irony and sarcasm was funny... but to some extent it's true. As I said above, I think you'll feel comfortable riding around, but that does not necessarily mean you'll be eager to do 80mph's on the freeway right away.

Btw- I'm planning on taking the advanced rider course within 6 months once I aquaint myself more with my own bike... any thoughts on that one?
I can see taking a lot of these courses in the future- it's great to really be put to the test with some difficult manuevers that require practice!

congrats its worth the money.. i took mine back in february, well worth the money. didn't realize it was so much in different states. i plan on taking the intermediate course soon as i get another 200 or so miles under my belt. that way i can avoid the dmv all together when i'm ready to get my license (got my permit and its good til next year i think). afterwards then i'll work on the expert class. i'm all about learning how to do things, cause in the end.. its the education factor that wins big points with me. none of this just getting out and doing it mess.

My thoughts: I think once a year or once every two years we ought to take the erc to stay refreshed. Staying on these boards where people are talking over and over about basic skills, so they stay in our minds, is good.

In the GWRRA's rider education program, I've got to have taken a rider class and first aid or first responder class within every two years to stay at my current level. I'm working on Level 3 right now. As soon as I have 5,000 miles, I can sew my patches on, and everyone I ride with will know I have First Aid certification and a current rider course.

Continued education isn't always about benefitting us personally. It shows we care about the safety of those we ride with, and want to stay prepared to serve if one of our group gets hurt.

I was wondering if anyone knew what forms of payment they take for the course. I'd be taking it in New York, and there website is down right now. I don't know if they take credit cards or not, cause I can pay that way, but coming up with cash at the moment is kinda difficult. Got bills to pay! So if anyone knows clue me in, thanks!
