I have both... depends where I'm going and what I need to carry.

I have the Icon Primer (the last one you posted) for day to day, day rides, etc...it's very compact, and has just enough room for the contents of my purse (cus I don't carry a purse when I ride obviously), a hat (to cover up helmet hair), sunglasses, and camera. I also keep a puck, a pocket knife, lip balm and tissues in there at all times. It's very small and compact, and actually makes a good boob rest (for those of us who are top heavyish) when you're in a tuck.

Chris and I both have the Joe Rocket Manta XL (it's pretty new... just came out this past fall - it's a larger version of the first one you posted). It's AWESOME.... it's got room for all the contents of my purse, my lunch, a couple bottles of water... and still doesn't keep me from getting into a good tucked position. I use this one for weekdays/going to work when I'm taking my lunch with me.

Chris also has the Nelson-Riggs one you posted (second one down), but hasn't used it at all since he got the Joe Rocket. Perfectly functional bag, just not quite as good.

For when we want to carry MORE than what will fit in a tank bag, Chris has the Fieldsheer Speed Angel backpack. It comes in black or red, and has a TON of reflective tape on it. He picked it up (new) dirt cheap on Ebay.

And I have a Nike "uni" bag - it's a backpack with a single (wide, padded) strap that goes diagonally across the body. It's got great padding on the back, and waterproof pockets for phone, keys, MP3 player, etc.... I actually got it for travelling (airports, etc...) but it's worked well on the bike, too.

Funny thing b/c I'm planning on buying a tank bag myself. Otherwise, I don't ride w/ either currently. Btw... on the more compact tank bags, do you ladies think it's typical to be able to fit a pair of gym shoes and gym clothes in one? that's really the only reason I'm going to purchase one, but I don't want to get one that's very big.

I can fit a pair of sandals or flats in the Icon Primer, but nothing bigger like athletic shoes. The Manta XL would probably easily house workout clothes and shoes, though (and I'm sure the larger Icon bag could, too)

Scott & I both have the Manta tank bags. I've kept my drytech liner for my jacket in there, a pair of sandals I bought, water botttle, cell phone, camera, etc. I don't think the XL would fit as well on my little bike. If I really needed to carry more stuff I'd use a backpack or messenger bag.

Tank Bag!!
I have the same tankbag style (top picture ) as Saki.Girl, and its the same one (in black) that I got my b/f for Christmas, he likes it too.
Its not to often that I ride with a backpack, unless I ride to the office and I need to carry my laptop etc.

Definitely tank bag. If a backpack is anything like my Camelback water pack, backpacks can be a PITA to get on and off if your jacket has armor. I've got the original Manta tank bag also and it's great. My main worry was it blocking the instruments on the bike, but it's so low profile I don't even see it. It doubles as my purse during riding season. I can fit everything that goes in my purse (wallet, keys, tissues, meds, pen, insurance/registration, small rag, carry strap, puck, rain cover, cell phone, ear plugs, chap stick, eyeglass repair kit, brush, barrette, hair bands, and bobby pins) and I still have room left over.

For extra storage, I got the Cortech Sport saddle and tail bags. I love 'em. Easy to get into when they're on the bike, easy to get on and off, easy to clean if they get dirty and they hold quite a bit (although my rain gear does take up 1 saddlebag.)

I'm thinking of getting the matching Cortech tank bag for longer trips, but I may checkout that Manta XL too. (Thanks for the heads up!)

Great ideas- thx ladies on my question re:fitting gym clothes and shoes. I think I'll have to bring along a pair when I do go to purchase the bag to ensure they fit

Hey Svet,

For reference, this is what the Icon Urban tank bag looks like with a pair of size 10.5 gunboats aboard. You can easily stuff a t-shirt, towel, water bottle and warmup pants in there. You just won’t be able to get into that MotoGP tuck.

Hi Ladies, Don't mean to barge in on ya, but thought you might be interested in these bags, picked up a Luggage Locker Tank bag and a Elite Sport - tail bag for my ZX9R last summer. They both work great! The best part is neither one touches your paint, so don't have to worry about scratching up the paint etc. The Tank bag is expandable too which is nice, depending on what you are carrying at the time. Used mine for a trip to Red Lodge, Yellowstone, Black Hills and back to NoDak last fall and worked great!

Oops, to find them try www.luggagelocker.com, just allow some lead time, because it seems he custom makes them, not a bunch of inventory on hand at times.

I use a tank bag that I got from Nelson Rigg, but most of the time I don't attach it the usual way. My ZN700 has a glovebox on the sissy bar and that has a metal cover. I wrap the magnetic flaps on the tank bag around the sissy bar and the magnets hold the bag securely in place. I've been riding like that alot in the past two or three months and it hasn't jostled loose yet. I do use it on the tank too when I need directions in the map window but I prefer it on the sissy bar. When it's on the tank and I'm parking the bike or maneuvering in small spaces the engine cut off switch or the horn button can hit the bag at shut off the bike or beep the horn.

No Problem, Tank bag works great, has a ring which mounts to your gas tank ring by removing and replacing 3 screws, easy on and off for filling gas, then locks on...just don't misplace the key! Tail bag works good too. Very secure, and locks under the seat too. Quality product!
