I think I feel much more comfortable with the 250 actually for a little while at least so that I can get some more seat time. The 500 is too heavy for me at the moment. I am scheduled to take the MSF class in California in June I can't wait.

Hi, Already did the intro bit on the main board but here goes again...
My name's Tammy, I'm in Auckland, NZ for those playing at home... my first bike was a 2002 Suzuki FXR 150, which was upgraded after only a few months to my new baby, a 1992 Kawasaki ZXR 250 with about 29 000K's on the clock. The guys that owned it before me started to modify it for racing and for some reason didn't use it to race and ended up selling it to me. The ZXR is standard black with an aqua kinda stripe on it, it has a quarter turn throttle, after market racing pipe, racing chain, racing sprocket, rev limiter, modified fuel lines and custom screws/bolts/nuts and a custom tank cap. Very tidy little bike with a lot power, I have removed the "250" stickers and love it when the "know it all" guys go "oh yes thats a 400cc or a 600cc, you can tell by the... and the..." I just laugh and nod. I havn't been riding very long due to the fact that my family hates bikes, and they hate the idea of a woman on a bike more than they hate bikes... so yeah... here I am.. |

Hi Tammy, that's too funny.. seems like you have a nice 250.. have you ridden it on long distances? How does it ride? I am getting one after dropping a 500cc a few times (finding out it was too big for me) I have to downgrade for a bit while I get more seating time. I can't wait....

Yeah I love my bike, I don't know how it works in the USA or any other part of the world (well I kinda know how Australia works because Australian superbike mags are the only ones worth buying here in NZ), here in NZ when you get your learners license for biking you cannot ride any bike that is 2 stroke or above 250cc. Unfortunatly, your stuck sitting on a 250 for about a year or more before you can upgrade (when you get your full license... however the time can be reduced if you take advanced rider safety courses... which I should be going on next month).
My ex-flat mate used to ride and she organised through a friend for me to buy this bike, it kicks butt so to speak, it looks like your standard ZXR250, but it's not, which is awesome... The mod's in total are worth about $2000, and standard ZXR's in the bike shops cost about $6000 - $7500 depending on the year, and I brought mine for $6000, including all the mod's, a full ladies 2 piece Spyke racing leathers set (which was brand new... I'm still trying to wear it in), a pack rack (with bag) and a spare helmet... so I think I got a very good deal. I havn't really been on any really long rides on it yet, the longest would proberly be about an hours journey one way and then an hour back. My partner has my old Suzuki FXR 150, and she feels uncomfortable riding long distance on the bike and we arn't members of any riding groups/clubs so we mainly use our bikes for little trips and commuting to work until my partner gets a bigger bike. She came off the FXR in November of last year and caused $1500 worth of damage which was really upsetting considering the FXR had under 5000K's on the clock and is only worth $3500 at the most. She wasn't hurt (many thanks to the people who invented Kevlar gear!!!), but her confidence was shook up really bad and it took a lot of talking to get her back on the bike, only now is she starting to feel safe riding again, so after a few more months we're going to get her a 250, she wants an up-right bike, like a Honda Bandit or a Hornet, but she is fairly short and has trouble touching the ground on the FXR, she can reach the ground just fine on my bike, so I'm trying to talk her into getting a little sporty bike, maybe a ZXR or CBR, then we can go for longer rides. Riding my bike is great, the quarter turn throttle makes it almost impossible to keep to the speed limit.... I'm always hooning around keeping an eye open for cops and speed camera's. As you might have read in the mechanic's section my brakes are shot, and the reason why is still a mystery, taking the ZXR into the shop on Friday so they can check it out and hopefully fix it without ripping a huge hole in my wallet. I guess the biggest let down about riding my bike is that it hates hills. It still has the power and has no problem, but you can deffinatly feel the rev's building up and bike slowing down... But other than that it's an awesome bike to ride. what kind of 250 are you thinking of getting? I've never riden a 500cc bike, but I'm assuming there is a big power difference, after riding a 500, to me would be like me jumping from a 250 back to a 150... ZXR's come in the 400cc class too if you don't want to make such a big jump... |

Hi girls! Newbie here. My name is Jane and I'm a Postal Rural Carrier from the small state of Delaware. I'm 40 yrs old, married for 22 yrs with 3 wonderful children 20, 18 and 16. I ride a 2003 Vulcan 500 Ltd. Started riding a year ago when my husband went through, what I call ,his mid life crises and bought himself a Honda VTX 1300. I enjoy riding so much but am still quite scared out there. Call me paranoid I guess. Hubby and I are taking our first long trip in June. Going to Thunder In The Valley, Johnstown, Pa. I'll let you know how that goes. My main worry is going over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Any advise on going over bridges? Close my eyes and pray for it to get over? lol No, I think I'll be ok just a little nervous.

Hey girls....
I posted up a mini intro in the main forum as well, but I wanted to say hi... (I do recognize a few names here from other ladies forums - nice to see ya'll!) Well, I've JUST gotten my first bike... as in, it arrived last night. I've been involved with the local sportbike community for about 2 years now, but haven't been riding as of yet (spent more than my fair share of time as a passenger - but now I wanna take over the reins!).... So, I'm slated to take my MSF soon, I've got most of my gear (just need to order my helmet), and now I have the bike! She's definitely going to be a project... she's a 1995 ZX6R. A friend of a friend had her, and on his first time out, it rained, he lost control, and she had an encounter with a street sign. So she's got lost of plastic damage.... but none of it is beyond repair, and she runs pretty well (she'll be much happier after an oil change and a new battery, though!)... But since I don't really even know how to ride yet, it's okay... it'll be a learning experience for me all around!

Sounds like you have a nice project on your hands, will make the first ride a lot more satisfying after fixing the bike up yourself (or with your help). Just a question, in America do you have a learners license? Or any restrictions when you first start riding? I've noticed a few people say that they can't ride or are new to riding and they jump on big capacity bikes... Here in NZ there is 3 stages to the license process and a bunch of restrictions until you have your full license. *wants to be in the US now so I can ride a bigger bike* |

I don't actually know if there's a learners permit for motorcylcle endorsements - it might vary by state. Here in Florida, there's two ways to get your endorsement - you can either go to the DMV and take their road test (which most everyone fails the first time... lol) or you can take the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) course, which automatically earns you the endorsement (I think you just take the completion certificate to teh DMV and they give you the endorsement).

Hi, I'm Lia. I am going to WSU in Pullman WA. At 27, it looks like I may be the youngest one here? I have my bike (in my possesion) for two weeks. I am using it commute to campus, and hopefully, I'll find some time inbetween tests and homework to get some distance on it. My fiance has a GSXR750, we haven't even ridden together because we don't live in the same town. Maybe this weekend...
I noticed that Ninjagirl was excited to change her oil finally, I can't wait either. ps. I like the girls only thing. There are few girls on bikes around here and I feel like I stick out! Probably do. Hopefully it's not the riding skills that is attracting the attention! I swear this whole town was built on a HILL! Not good for a beginer trying not to embarass herself. I have a riding gear question but I think I'll save that for the other topic in this forum. Nice to be here. L |

Welcome Lia. It's great to have other women riders to talk to. No, you're far from being the youngest on here. I think our youngest right now is 17. Glad you found us! I'm a cruiser girl, but I'll forgive ya... J/K. Hope you stick around!
BTW, did Whistle Clean send you to this forum? I think that's the college he works at. Last edited by Chromequeen : 05-01-2005 at 11:08 PM. |
