I ride a Nomad 1700 and love the big cruiser. But - I also like sport tour bikes (my husband's previous BMW K1200RS helped me get my ya-ya's a few times before he traded it for his Valkyrie)....and would love to have a sport bike to rip around on some days - but I know my body just could not handle the forward riding position *sigh*

The forward riding position on a sport bike or sport tourer is way better for your back than the upright cruiser position, in which all your upper body weight is compressing on your lower spine. My chiropracter has told me, when I've been in for lower back complaints, to ride my bike instead of drive my car, because of this.

I've never had a doctor tell me this but the weight on the tailbone is by far the main reason I went ST from cruisers.

I have a Vulcan 800. My knees do not like the bends involved on a crotchrocket! I also love the rumble with straight pipes! can't get that from a Ninja.

Hi, Ladies!

I'm new to the forum and thought I'd drop in to say hello!

I just sold my first bike an '04 Ninja 250, bittersweet....well, until I get the call from the dealer that my brand spanking new 650r is unloaded and ready to ride! =)

I love the sportbikes, just because I'm too stubborn to let my short legs make me ride a cruiser! And I like being a girl on a sportbike!

I'll post pics of the new gal as soon as she's home.

Can't wait to see it!!

i have very short legs also but i like the look and feel of the sport bikes the best so it does become a challenge. The ninja was already lowered when i bought it and I tried the katana without lowering for a week or so but due to the weight of it i couldn't get any leverage to walk it when having to back up so i had it lowered also.

Ummm, yes, you can get that rumble on a Ninja. Just have to get after-market pipes.

Personally, I don't like the deep rumble; it's too loud. My bf has after-market pipes on his ZX10, and his bike is WAY too loud. It literally hurts my ears if I am following him in the corners.

I prefer the smooth bumblebee whine of a 4-cylinder winding up and moving through the gears. That's the sound of speed…

I'd really love to have a sport tourer, but I have very bad knees, and I can't handle the leg position for more than half an hour. My husband has some highway pegs on his FJR that allow him to move his feet forward a bit. They do nothing for me because my legs are still bent too much. And he must still get uncomfortable because when we're on long rides, he lets his feet hang down sometimes (off the pegs completely). Fortunately his legs are short enough (really short!!! ) that his feet don't bump the ground. I wouldn't be able to do that.

On my cruiser, I can change my leg position several different ways (including putting my feet up on my highway pegs), and it's the only way I can ride without pain for long periods of time. I guess I'm going to be on a cruiser from now on. My 1500 is really comfortable. I have no back pain whatsoever. And I like being able to flat-foot my bike.
