Thumbs up He's Getting the Bug!!

Hey Girls,
Curious...... How'd you get into this sport? And, did your significant other ride before you? I'm asking this, because I've wanted a bike of my own since before I started walking I think. Hubby has had no previous interest in them. Until now.... He has seen me down right ticked off when she's not running, to going balistic when she roared to life.

Anyway, I started bike shopping for next year, and he's never wanted to go with me when I offer. When he was getting over pneumonia, I invited him to ride along with me in the cage while I ran errands, just go get him out of the house. Then I said, and if you don't want to go to a couple different dealerships with me, don't bother going. I'll be out for a while and I'm taking my own sweet time at the dealerships. We went to Honda / Yamaha, Suzuki, and then Kawasaki. We got brochures at each dealership. Now keep in mind, he's never shown interest, and even denies it occasionally when he wants to get me going. I've caught him twice this week pulling out the brochures to "look" at the different bikes!!! He's even talking about "when" we go to the 2006 forum get together! I finally said the other day, "You are soooooo getting the bug! Did it hurt when it bit you?" He of course won't admitt he's excited at the prospect of next spring when we get at least one MeanStreak. I told him I would not teach him to ride, he had to take the MSF course, and he's going next month. Wait till he starts riding girls! What are your bets? Will this bug bite hurt??? Hehehe

You know what CQ, I'm not one of the girls, and I don't know you from Adam, but I love you ! Although this sport of ours can be "all-consuming", and very frustrating at times, (like when she won't run), there is just NOTHING ELSE quite like it, is there? PS Great job on "spreading the bug" ! LOL

I have been riding motorsports all my life. Dirt bikes, ATV, snowmobiles, dune-buggy, raced mountain bikes and what started it all....riding "biotch" with my dad when I was younger. I loved (and still do) to watch the MotoGP Races!!

I have always wanted a street bike...a sportbike. Up until now, I have'nt had or I guess I "did'nt" make the time to get my own bike. 2003....that was the year I said I would do it, get the bike!!! I started to look at bikes, knew I wanted something at the 600cc level. It was between the GSXR and the Ninja. I took the MSF class that year.....but some health issues pushed back my dream to have a bike. I got through those issues and in 2004 I got the Ninja......the 500R! When I went to the dealer and sat on the 600cc bike, I was so intimidated that I actually talked myself out of it. Since this was my first street bike, I decided to start out on the 500, build up my riding skills, I could always move up when I was ready. I am happy with the 500, its a perfect bike for me.....for now. I still dream and I WILL get the 636 Ninja, but on my own time when I am ready.

I love the feeling of riding. I think a girl on a sportbike....ROCKS!! I like that I am doing my own maintence and mod's. I have met some great riders both sport and cruiser.
I am a happy camper and I am really glad I have a bike!!
I love this ride!!!

BOY O' BOY !! LOL Now I KNOW that I've passed the Senior Citizens' Test !! I read what CQ wrote, fully understood what she said, and didn't catch how she wrote it until "good ole' Alex" brought it to my attention !! So I guess I'll thank Alex, chuckle at CQ's boo-boo, and go gum the chocolate of my peanuts while a watch a soap opera .

Hey, CQ that sooo cool that your DH is getting interested It's fun riding together.

Now in my story, it was *me* who originally wanted nothing to do with "those things" ;P But I kept seeing how excited my sweetie was after classes and I thought maybe it would be fun to ride around on the back. Well then I had to pick my husband up after one of his riding sections and got there a little early, so I sat on a bench and watched. (you know where this is heading, right I sat there and watched everyone go round in circles and thought "gee, they look like they're all having fun" and "gee, I could do that..." Got my permit the next week and the rest is history

And no, it didn't hurt...neither did turning 30

Happy and safe riding! Go away snow!

I started riding dirt bikes when I was a teenager, and I had a street bike when I was in my 20s. Then I got divorced, went to college as a single mother, and went 20 years without riding. A year ago I got to be good friends with some people who were into riding, and I started to get the bug really bad to get a bike again. My husband had never really ridden at all--just one time about 25 years ago on his cousin's sport bike, which didn't go very well and scared him half to death.

When I started thinking about riding again, I suggested that he take the MSF class with me (I thought it'd be a good idea for me to take it since I hadn't ridden for so long). I've been trying to find something we can do together. My husband's an engineer; he sits in front of a computer all day at work designing ICs, then he comes home and sits in front of his computer all evening and all weekend. I've had trouble finding something we both enjoyed that we could do together. When I suggested the MSF class, he said he'd take the class with me. Well, that's all it took. Within two weeks after we took the class, he bought a bike. (I bought mine a few weeks later.) We've both traded up since then (our first bikes lasted only a few months). He *loves* his bike and spends a lot of time adding accessories to it, riding it, talking to people on his FJR board, etc. We've joined a local bike club and have made some really nice new friends. It's been a really great thing for us--the first thing I've ever tried to get going that we've actually stuck with as a couple. We ride together every weekend that the weather allows, and now he's going to try to ride with me up to Montana this summer.

I hope your hubby gets into it as much as mine did. I think that was one of the best suggestions I've ever made.

He does nothing to warrant shooting him. Might I suggest to you Alex, a cold shower?

I developed an interest in motorcycles around 12 or so. I never had any dirtbikes, atvs or anything but when a friend of my family's started to pick me up on his Ninja and take me out to lunch once in a while, I became addicted. I rode pillion with him until I was 16 and immediatley took the beginner course and 2 days later bought a 450. Then, I made my exhusband take the course. He had no interest before me.

And I've since vowed to never date a guy who doesn't ride.

It's wrong, I know, but hey - that's the rule.

I've had an interest in bikes ever since I rode around on the back of my Dad's bike, with my younger brother riding his 400 next to us. I might have been a little jealous of him. But it wasn't so bad, that same little brother let me ride his YZ250. So he made up for it!

Ever since then, I've had a slow burn for bikes. I've drooled over them (Yamaha R6), but never got one. It's taken me over 8 years, but I finally decided that I would get my own bike this summer. I'm wisely starting smaller than that sexy R6, but someday I'll work my way up! As such, my husband has been going to the local dealers with me and sitting on bikes. So needless to say, he now wants one of his own too! It's great because like the other ladies with SOs/husbands, riding is something we can do together as a couple. I can't wait until we have our bikes and we can take that first ride together. I'm really looking forward to meeting other people in our area - joining clubs, group rides, events, bbqs, etc.

Hmmm... missed this thread the first time around....

Um, I got interested in bikes about two years ago, when I began dating a man that had a bike (an '02 ZX9R). When he first told me he had a bike, I was terrified, and refused to get on it. But slowly he convinced me to at least ride around the neighborhood with him, and then I was hooked.

Well, fast forward a year, and we split up, and I decided I was no longer content to ride "biotch" anymore, and decided I'd eventually get my own bike. Also, I'd made many great friends (and met my current boyfriend) via the local sportbike scene.

So far forward another year, and I've finally got my own ride. She's still a project, and I'm still learning, but it's SO exciting, and I'm so proud to finally have my own!! My boyfriend also has a couple of bikes, but I've never ridden with him (sadly, one of his bikes isn't running, and the other doesn't have passenger pegs!). But he's been a great help in teaching me and supporting me in my quest. He does all he can to make sure I'll be a safe and responsible rider.
