Default Breakfast in Tortilla Flats

Wifey and I are having breakfast in Tortilla Flat Sunday morning if anyone in the Phoenix area wants to join us. Locals should know about this place, if not... it is at the east end of Canyon Lake and is a nice little ride up the 88, which turns to dirt just past Tortilla Flat, goes out past Apache Lake, and to Roosevelt Lake (I won't be doing that ).

I will be having a Killer for breakfast.

Yum.

Would love to but unfortunately I have other obligations that will keep me at home until May.

That's so unfair. We need to make a "run for the border" to get our Mexican food fix. We have nothing even close to an authentic Mexican place up here.
You guys are lucky, and don't even know it.

Soon it waill be warm enough for "Taco Tuesday's" our dinner run across the border into Oroville.

You have Taco John's? SWEET! Potato Ole's are AWESOME! Luckily, a close friend of ours is FROM Mexico so we just call her when we want good Mexican Eats.

Tortilla flat is not exactly a destination for authentic Mexican food, but it is a pretty cool place, with pretty good food. Oh and I know all about Canadian style "Mexican" food. I had some chips and salsa once, a while ago, in Toronto and the "salsa" was basically ketchup with chunks of tomato in it. Gross.

I will be having lunch today at Resturaunt Mexico, which does have some very authentic Mexican food and is one of the best places to eat in the Phoenix area. The lunch special today is chicken mole'.

Mmmmm.

Chocolate chicken... my favorite.

Canadian Mexican food is kind of like American beer then?

You're missing out. It's a horrible excuse for Mexican food. Kind of a step below Taco Bell even. But man...some of it just taste TOO good!

I refuse to eat any ethnic "food" that has been prepared by some pimply faced, saggy pants, little punk white kid.

If it's gonna be Mexican, then the cook better have the ethnicity down.....no different than any other food we love.

Maybe you should get some diversity where you live. Ha ha! Most of our fast food restaurants ARE staffed by Mexicans!

Racist pig. Ha ha! The funny thing is our Mexican friend is roommates with a lady who's family is 100% Swedish...and she makes the meaner salsa of the two!

Probably worse. At least American beer looks like beer.

BTW, I do not drink American beers either, except for Sam Adams. Its pretty good. My beer of choice is Labatt's Blue and Newcastle after that. Dos Equis Amber is decent Mexican beer. Most Mexican beer scares me though. I keep wondering why they are always served with a lime (or as they are called in Mexico... lemon). I find it interesting too, given the reputation of sanitary conditions in Mexico, how it is that one of their signature dishes is ceviche'. I guess they figure that citrus juice is a sanitizer.

Taco Johns started out of a trailer in wyoming. no place to even sit down. It's better than taco bell because taco bell just rehydrates everything. meat beans cheese.

Taco Johns is definately a midwest thing, but It's a plus not a minus. Hearty delicious tacos and once you have potato ole's (half size tator tots with taco seasoning and celery salt) You will be back.

Hey alstensby, you ever think about getting some gravy and curds with your oles?

I don't have a plan yet, but we could meet in AJ if you want. Which way you come up? I live off of Ellsworth. We could meet at Ellsworth and Main too. Or Ellsworth and Brown (I usually go up Brown to catch Apache Trail). But, it don't matter to me.
