Default Latest project - Teryx hand controls

First off, I have to thank Ken (Lobocop) for helping me out by putting me in touch with some real good guys who know the Teryx in and out. Without them, I would have had a much tougher time sourcing what I was looking for.

I've been working in the medical/mobility industry for more than 15 years now, and over that time I've put dozens of hand controls on vehicles, among the other addaptive devices I've also installed.
Hand controls are used to used by anyone who cannot, for whatever reason, use their feet to work the brake and gas pedals in a vehicle. They are most often used by para's and quad's so that they can still get out and drive.

A couple weeks ago a customer came to me and said he had just purchased a new 2009 Kawasaki Teryx 750 and wanted to look at hand controls. After looking around (thanks again Ken) I found an old supplier that we used to deal with who manufacturer's controls specifically for recreational vehicles (ie: Mules, RUV's, and golf carts)

I ordered a set and installed them yesterday. My customer was pretty exstatic. He had already added a 4 point racing harness to hold him in place, a Warn winch overhead to lift him in, and has a power steering unit on order.

Here's a few pictures.

Before:

Front shroud off, and maounting bracket partially attached to frame (I wish working on cars were this easy. The entire front clip comes off in about 5 minutes, and exposes the whole front undercarraige and frame)

Finished project:

The controls are operated by pulling forward and down on the lever to accelerate, and by pushing in towards the dash to brake. You have full throttle range in about a 3" play, and pretty much the same with the brake.

Thanks, you should see what I can do with a cheese grater, carrot peeler, a single 9volt battery, and some blue paint.

By fluke really. I lost a job, and the husband of one of my Mom's friends worked at this mobility store. I dropped off a resume....and that was 15+ years ago now. I've been running my own business for around 6 years now.

Thanks, we actually don't do much advanced or power rehab here. We live in much more of a retirement area, lots of seniors around, Veterans and the like.

No Ken, I didn't. I did run it back and forth a bit, and that beast sure has a ton of torque on tap, but that's about it.
