Ix-nay on Monday, too. Looks like work is taking over the remainder of my weekend. Gotta love those deadlines...

Definitely want to do a weekender in NC/SC/TN area, and soon. Got any suggestions?

Hey guys,

Sorry it's been so long since I posted. My not having a job has really messed up my schedule.

We are planning a day trip to Mount Mitchell this weekend if anyone is interested. The idea is to leave from somewhere in Spartanburg around 9 am and take highway 9 up through lake lure/ Chimney Rock through fairview on 74a and then take the parkway to the highest peak east of the mississipi river. Then we will come back via the parkway to 276 and the cradle of forestry. From there it is in the air whether to come down through Ceasar's Head or go over through Hendersonville and down 176 (another great curvy road). It should be about a 7 or so hour ride and the weather says it will be mid 50s or so. As of right now I am waiting on feedback to decide whether to go on Saturday or Sunday. Anyone up for a ride? If you wanted to come to Greenville/Spartanburg on Friday or saturday, I am sure we can arrange a cheap room at a nice hotel for you.

Let me know!

Take care,
Robert

You have a lot of experience with cheap hotel rooms in the area, huh?

The wife and I would do it, but we're planning to meet Ryan at Morrow Mtn on Saturday to pick up PT Donkey. I don't know that he wants to ride that far in a day.

We're going to be in Walland, TN this weekend. I'd take the bike, but it's a Corvette club trip and I haven't claimed a dragon sticker for my car yet.

LOL nah, they closed down that hotel Dave. Sorry for the dissapointment. Tell Ryan we said hi! We were looking for the trip to Morrow Mtn again this year, but I didn't see it posted. I may have missed it though. Tell Ryan we said hi and wish we could have seen him. I would like to compare notes on the 900s as it were.

It looks like we are probably going on Sunday. If you are around, I don't think Mt Mitchell is far from where you guys live if you would like to meet us up there for lunch or something?

Obsidian! Wish I could be there with ya in TN. I still haven't made it to the Dragon in a car or on the bike. Would love to see a corvette club gathering. We see a few on the parkway and there is a mustang club that rides up there a lot too. Have fun!

Anyone else up for a day ride this weekend?

If it's Sunday, there may be a chance of that. We always plan a trip to see the colors anyway, and could probably make it a quicker trip taking more direct roads. I'll check with my trip planner and see what she...I mean, I can plan.

Hey guys, pardon the interruption but is that Morrow Mtn ride worth the
trip from Raleigh/Durham? I have been thinking about riding that way soon.

Depends. I find Morrow Mtn to be more of a rest area if you bring your own sandwich and drink. But there are many nice country roads in the area that I ride regularly, particularly just to get away from the house for a couple of hours or to take the long way from work to chill out so I won't kick the dogs when I get home. And the Eldorado Outpost not far from there on Hwy 109 north of Troy has good, greasy tater wedges

Has your daughter looked into either Clemson or Furman? They may be a little more expensive but if I had a kid I would prefer for him / her to attend one of those vs. USC.

GO TIGERS!!!
Yes - I'm a TIGER too (I guess 'Streaking Tiger' gives it away). I grew up within walking distance of Furman, and loved that school, but it's pretty expensive IMO. Of course, I chose Clemson, and 1 of my sons did too, so I'd recommend CU. However, the admission criteria is extremely high, so be prepared to make over 1200 on the SAT - preferably 1250+. That's way higher than USC will accept - so just be aware of that.

I lived in Spartanburg for years (Boiling Springs, Greer), but didn't own a bike during the latter years there. If I ever ride my bike to that area - maybe I can look everyone up and ride for awhile.

Ride safe - and enjoy the BRP.
