Default BN 125 Starter problem

I'm a life long rider and have mostly done all my repairs/maintenance. I bought my son a BN125 for a 1st street bike and am getting mechanically attuned to it. Its a 2002 with only 1300 miles on it. It is having intermittent starter problems. It just clicks when you push the starter button. It will push start and on occasion the starter will actually engage. I removed all of the wires and cleaned them. Removed the starter and it spins fine when connected directly to the battery. Thus I replaced the solenoid. It started once and then the same clicking problem. Any ideas?

Check the following electrical connections:

1.The Negative battery(-) cable from the battery to the engine or frame for tightness.

2. The Positive battery (+) cable from the battery to the starter solenoid and from the solenoid to the starter motor.

3. Check the cables for hidden internal corrosion; this happens to car battery cables with corrosion eating away at the cable reducing it's current carrying capability.

All the above connections must be clean and tight for maximum current to get to the starter motor.

Default Think I fixed it.

Used a multimeter and determined the full battery voltage was getting to the starter. I removed the starter and disassembled it. There was some carbon on the armature which I cleaned and then put it all back together. Its been working ever since.

Also check solenoid. Turn key to start position. Put a wrench or screwdriver between the two terminals on the solenoid. If the bike starts when you do this, you know the solenoid's internal connection is not working.
