If you get the type of ear buds that have the little rubber rings on them that insert further into your ear, they'll attenuate some of the external noise so you can hear the music while still hearing what is going on around you - as long as you don't crank the tunes. That type usually comes with a couple of rubber cup sizes to make them fit your ear better.

In my case, I use the standard flat style because I have a full face helmet and don't get as much noise. Those allow me to hear the GPS yacking at me while I'm moving. The GPS isn't loud enough to be heard easily with the sealed type I mentioned above.

I've got an AWESOME story for you about "GPS on a motorcycle"... just got back from a 1,071 mile trip to the East Coast, and it was all GPS driven... I'll let you know what it can do for you if you let it, but not 'til after this weekend's Donkey ride!
