power outlet

hello want to add a auvillary power outlet so i can charge my cell phone on long trips. purchased one from advanced auto clerk said it should work but, it does not. i'm gett 12.69 volts but nothing seems to work plugeed into it. any suggestions? i am running it into the plugs under my seat and runing a 10amp in line fuse. i have a 09 kawai 900 custom. thanks newby rider

Are you getting voltage going to the outlet, or voltage coming out? If there's juice going in but none coming out, is there a built-in fuse? Is it a crappy plug that you have to twist inside the outlet to get good contact?

Here's a recent link for someone that just did the same thing, except he used the connectors in the bucket but the connectors & process is the same as the ones under the seat.
But basically the center (should be red) gets connected to the hot (blue/white) and the black gets connected to either the ground or any metal on the frame.
Also you should use bullet connectors & shrink tubing too.
