Back when I had a chain. I never even thought to work on it running. But then again I work on machine for a living so maybe that was why? Hope it turns out ok for him!

As he mentioned, it could have been even worse. It was his right hand that was injured, and fortunately, he is left handed.
I feel sorry for the dude... I still have all my digits, but it is probably as much through luck than being overly smart! Ride (and work) safely! Don

Definitely not the way to clean a chain. Learned to keep my fingers away from powered rotating machinery after an incident with a lawnmower that only left non-standard features in my fingerprints

That is the second thread I've read recently about people getting hurt lubing their chain with the motor running. Hard way to learn a lesson.
(Did anyone continue reading the thread? One of their other members poured energy drink in his gas tank. Backing away slowly from the Gixxers....) |

I got a case of the stupids one time involving an x-acto knife. Luckily I only severed an artery in one place and nicked it in another and severed one tendon.... All healed now with very minor permanent damage and a scar on my wrist to talk about.

As a kid, one great mentor was maintenance director at Bethlehem Steel. He said to never get my hands near a running chain. Years later I decided to try lubing the chain on one of my bikes while it was on the center stand and with the chain moving - got the lube squirt tip near it and saw that doing it would be stupid since the lube would fly off and get all over me, but I never got my hand itself close to the running chain. Now, seeing that photo reminds me that I was nearly stupid on two counts since accidents happen unexpectedly!

I was simply spinning the back tire on the GPz by hand to clean it, and the rag got caught and pulled in my index finger. Drove the rear sprocket tooth right up through my fingernail.
I can see how this could have happened. Dumb **** just seems to happen at the best time. Buddy was pretty good about it all though, and won't make that mistake again. If you have a drive chain on your bike, at somepoint you've shed blood on it.

My high school band director lost the tip of his middle finger on his right hand to a table saw. The worst problem afterward was that he plays the saxophone and couldn't reach one of the keys.
He actually has a prosthetic fingertip not only for looks, but so he can play. You really can't tell unless he points it out (no pun intended). He jokes that, in traffic, no one can tell the difference... |

Someone thought an energy drink called NOS was the same as a fuel additive also called NOS.... I think it's just typical of the stupid people who buy motorbikes and expect them to be easy to fix... or simply just not having any common sense. i saw a Mustang forum where a idiot guy was changing the oil himself and saw it was coming out dirty, so he flushed the dirty oil out with the garden hose...... topped it back up with clean oil once all the dirty stuff was flushed and went for a drive to lube the engine..... of course it died pretty rapidly. a nice quick way to destroy your new Mustang's engine. |
