Default Would you buy a demo bike?

Jodie has an opportunity to buy a manufacturers demo bike with 10,000kms on it for a substantially reduced price. It comes with a full 3 year warranty. Personally with bikes I like to buy new, cause then I know they get broken in properly and maintained properly from day one, but I also know lots of people who buy used and have good results.

The dealer figured because of the relatively high mileage for a demo, they said most demos only get about 1,000kms on them, it was probably driven by a dealers owner / manager for the summer.

Just wanted your opinions.

Im with you, I dont think I would never buy a used bike.. Even though it has a warranty, because of the "break in" you mentioned.. With that said.. bike are made to such a higher quality these days, that many people have had great luck..

I was offered a killer deal on a used hayabusa last week from my dealer and I ALMOST went for it until he said "this bike has probobly never seen more than 6k RPM's".. That ended the deal..

I'm like you Brent. I would want to buy new or from someone I knew who broke it in correctly. In a perfect world that bike Jodi can buy would last her a long time with little or no problems. However, with demo bikes...it's just hard to know how they were treated and if they even had a proper break in period. Toss a coin!

anyone ever rent a car? I have and let me tell you the idea of wraping it around a telephone pole has come to my mind. I checked that little box that said I'd pay for the insurance.....

anyway my point is, you don't know what kind of treatment that bike has gone thru in its 10,000 kms. who knows, maybe somebody ran it up to the rev limiter and kept it there? just don't know.

Carlo bought his meanie as a demo and has had zero issues. it comes with a 3 year warranty so you'd be covered in case...

I just don't know. I like new myself.

10000Km seems like a lot. My bike was a demo model but only had 600Km on it. I would be a little concerned about 'who and how" has ridden the bike for 10000KM.

It's alwayas good to know the history if you can.

Well thanks for everyones opinion, you pretty much echoed my feelings, and Jodie and I had pretty much decided she would buy the new one, they have the demo and a new one on the floor.

I bought my MS as a demo. It had 476 miles on it and most of those were put on by one person. It came with full factory warranty and I'm pretty good friends with the owner so if I have any kind of a problem, I know where to go. There are so many circumstances to consider when buying a demo....

If jodie needs some help breaking it in, I can take a little time off for her....Let's see, Vancouver -> Tijuana -> Vancouver over a three day weekend sounds doable.....Or we could do Edmonton- Juarez -> Edmonton in four....

I'm in, and I think I better tag along just to make sure you follow the break-in procedures. Wait a minute, 4 days alone on a motorcycle trip with a guy named "BigJohn" or 4 days alone on a motorcycle trip with my wife, let's see...
Sorry big guy.

LOL, that is Banff, but not a lake, the Bow River, from our trip to Victoria this summer.
