Default 600 mile service

Hello everyone, Im the new guy here. I just bought a 06 Vulcan 750 and I enjoy riding it. My question is, my first service is coming up shortly and the dealer wants about 150.00 to do the service. My question is, Why shouldnt I do the service, ive changed plenty of oil on bikes, drained shaft drive oil, adjusted clutches and torqued many a bolt. This isnt my first bike. Way back when, my first machine was a Kawasaki H2 750 Triple, a real screamer. next machine was a new 75 Z1 that I did all the work on. I am no stranger to bikes and the problems that might arise. My last machine was a 77 KZ 1000 bored to 1135. Crane cams, Smooth bore carbs running velosity stacks, Hight compression MTC pistons. and head work.and followed up with a Muzzy 4 into 1 exhaust. So should I let the dealer do the first service?

Thanks in advance for all your input.

Dave

sounds like you are plenty capable to do it yourself. couldn't tell you any reasons not to do it yourself other than paperwork for proof of service if you want to trade it in or sell it.

Welcome to the board.

do it!

if you've done all you said you've done, your qualified. take notes, document that you did the change, (does the 750 have the same oil pump screen) check bolts for tightness & such, do it

save that money for other stuff

My 600 mile checkup on the V 1600 was $140...including them installing my lowers. I'm happy and Mama Kawi has NO way to EVER argue about the warranty! And anyway, I like my dealer. They take good care of this newbie.

Save the bucks. Good recordkeeping works fine when/if you sell or trade. I stuck a small notepad with the MOM and jot down everything from oil changes (including oil & filter type) to tire pressure checks to nuts & bolts, etc.

We were told at the dealership that if we did the oil changes ourselves, to just keep all receipts and records to keep the warranty valid.

When you've done the work you'll know it's done correctly.
