Default Removing rear tire on Vulcan 750!

Hello to all,
I needed to grease the shaft on my (04) 750 with 6k miles. Just wondering if I have to remove the right muffler or can I just take the shocks off and drop the frame low enough & take the axle bolt out?

Also, should I replace the O-ring? Kawasaki told me it shouldn't need replacing on 2004!

Thanks in advance for replies and happy riding!

I dropped the shocks seemed a better idea than risk damaging one of those pipe gaskets

Just unbolt the bottom of the shocks and the swing arm with lower enough for the axle bolt to slide out. A little trick though, Before you put your bike on the center stand, but a peice of 2X6 under the stand before you raise it. It will raise the bike so you can remove the back tire more easily. As far as the O ring, inspect it,, the decide if you need to replace it. Prob not though.

IIRC, the last time we did that on DH's 750, we didn't remove the mufflers, just the shocks. However, you may want to invest in a lift as it makes the job much easier (we have a Craftsman lift). The 750's frame will sit on the lift with no problems.

You also might want to recruit some help. A second person makes the job easier

750's got a center stand, so I'm guessing the lift isn't necessary.

After having done it, the lift makes life easier...trust me.

I removed the rear tire without removing the muffler. I had greased the splines on my 06. Good thing I did, the splines didnt have much grease at all. The entire job took me two hours from start to finish.

When we owned 2 750's I did the maintenance on both of them in short order. Here are some pics I took of that maintenance.

It's an easier job that you might think. The nice thing about using the harbor freight lift is that you can set your tools and parts on it as you continue to work while sitting in a chair...very comfy I might add!

P.S. The garage has been cleaned up.
