Wow, looks the Nomad is outpacing the V2K
Maybe if they properly called it the V2100 it could finally pass the big butted Nomads Plato runs for cover ![]()

I do my own maintenance and working on the shaft drives is pretty easy. Going to a belt drive is something I have no experience with and have some concerns about doing maintenance on a belt system. On the other hand...my curosity always seem's to get the best of me and I am willing to learn about it so probably not a big deal. My favorite ice cream is Pistachio Almond Fudge. |

V2K allllll the waaaaaaaaaaaaaay...
My reasons, well one is my wife has her own bike, a 900 LT. So I will be riding solo most of the time. I like the classic cruiser look of the V2K, but I also like the MASSIVE look it has. Just riding behind it and seeing that big rear tire rolling down the road makes you think, this is a MAN's bike...yessssssssss. It handles very well, and I just love the 1/3 to 1/2 throttle response of the Big V-Twin. Also I figured, get the big powerful heavy V-Twin while I can. If I wait, too long, I may not be able to handle a big bike later in life. So it's do it now while I can. Instead of not being able to later and wishing I had.

Haven't had a need yet to work on the 900's or the V2K (other then oil/filter and bling), but when it does come time to replace the rear tire I will be doing the work. We have a 1995 Vulcan 500, 27,000 mile on it, belt drive (original belt too), and no problems with the belt. Changing the rear tire hasn't taken any more time then working with a bike having chain drive. Ken

I suspect it's not very hard to work on a belt drive system. I like working on my shaft drive bike as it's easy to take apart and put back together while doing maintenance. |

Sentiments in this thread - ice cream aside - seems to give the edge to the V2K, but at the time of my writing, the Nomad was leading 20-17... That's with my vote in the Nomad's column.
I've only had my Nomad for about a week, but on Decision Day, she was sitting right next to a V2K. The Nomad is my 3rd bike in a little over a year. She's the one I should've fallen for first. My first bike was a Vulcan 1600 Classic. I traded her away b/c I needed something with more utility and the soft bags weren't the answer. The V2K I was looking at had soft bags and a Kaw shield up front, but it just wasn't a Nomad. I love the way my Nomad handles. Could she be fiercer power-wise, sure. You can always use more power. Is that power necessary for me? No. The Nomad can handle any long trip I throw at her in comfort and style (hey, her "big butt" matches my own). And the color-matched hard bags can't be beat! And I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder, b/c my Nomad looks stately and graceful to me. The 2000 just looked like it was trying too hard. Well I ride two on my V2K and wouldn't have anything else. As far as having enough space to travel with well we managed quit well. My wife and I went from Reno to Arcata California and up Highway 101. We had the best vacation we have ever had on are V2K.

When I ride two up, my wife is usually the more comfortable one. Her seat is better than mine and I installed the floor boards for her.

I still say Kawi hasn't made a prettier bike than the Green on Green Nomad. function and sweet, sweet looks. Besides, do you really need 125ci.? Really?

Lets examine the other question and add another question to it ... with the mass transportation available, owning other forms of transportation (car/truck/bicycle/horse) do we even need motorcycles? I don't know about you, but I do ... just to maintain some sanity in this crazy world Do I need 125ci as opposed to the other sizes available, probably not, maybe we should all have eco friendly Honda 90's? In respect to the V2K, I want it, I enjoy it, I have it, and I'm going to keep it as it is my choice. This is not to say the Nomad isn't a good bike, isn't a good looking bike or that it is a small bike ... they are, in fact, a da** good bike, but the V2K is another animal that some of us just love

True enough Lobo, if we all only had what we needed. None of us would have bikes. Since we ride for fun, we are ALL just wasting gas. Do we really NEED to waste gas?
Oh, heck, I don't want to open another can of worms...<closing can> <taping lid shut> <wrapping in foil, and some plastic wrap> <stuffing at the bottom of the trash can> ahem....ummm..forget I said anything.. ![]() <changing subject> Hey look, we are catching up with the Nomads... ![]() But hey, you can't go wrong with either bike. They're Vulcans. ![]()
