hello, i'm new to this forum but not totally new to bikes.
rode when i was younger then let some years slip by. then a few years ago ran across my 82 spectra and the gpz both 750's and got back into riding again. am thinking of getting a new bike so now comes my question. the mean streak and the zx-14 are close to being the same price, why would i choose one over the other? love ther looks of the flat black flamed meany also love the looks of the black zx-14. here is how it looks to me, the zx can cruise but the meany can't be a rocketship. the meany pulls ahead in sex appeal, plus i see were i can improve all factions of the bike. having said that it looks to me like it wouldn't take much to make the zx a 200 mph bike. so what ya say. |

Depends on you. I'm an old guy, but I still love the performance of a sportbike. From what I've read, the zx14 is wicked. I've got to sell some stuff this spring to finish my current project. Turbo Busa

If you want sex appeal, get the new '07 Limited Edition ZX14 in White with Pin Striped Red and Black Flames - now THAT looks wicked! Has red rims too!

yes i know.
guess what i'm trying to say is, if i did a straight thru twisty 500 mi ride. what bike would get me there in the best shape? hp wise it looks like the gpz would stay with the meany, am i correct? never been on a mean streak or a zx14 but i bet a few of you have. what say? ![]() |

The Meanie is a mid 13 second bike, the ZX14 is in the upper 9's. The ZX14 is a rocket ship plain and simple, but it has a much more agressive rider stance than the Mean Streak. It's kinda like comparing apples to oranges. Sure, they both have two wheels, but the similarites end right about there.
If you enjoy carving corners and silly speeds, then it's the ZX14 hands down. But if your idea of fun is crusing around and enjoying the smells and the sights as you ride by - then go for the Mean Streak. Not that the ZX14 can't be driven slow you understand. I suppose it will go as slow as a cruiser. But the reverse isn't true. You can not ride a Mean Streak at the speeds a ZX14 can reach.

i depend's on your riding style & perception , if your a spirited rider that loves high speed & race bike look's & handling the ZX 14 is the bike to go for .
if you like a sweet handling / powerfull cruising bike the Mean Streak wont dissapoint you . i owned many sport's bikes & now like the easy riding , pure wind in your face cruising of a Mean Streak than warp speed riding on sport's bike . only you can answer this question , search your inner self' the answer lie's there . the Mean Streak is part sport bike / part cruiser & all "Mean" . |

there is a difference?
well obviously a little older now but. married a drop dead gorgeous lady almost 40 yrs ago. raced open class for a couple of yrs in early 70's "yamaha sc500" evil bike. best finish 4th place but i had fun. sky diving, only 16 jumps, but had fun. had 66 dodge 426 hemi, gave my 68 390 amx to my son only 56000 mi yet. while he was in iraq told him you come home alive and it's yours. snow skiied for 30 yrs "utah, colorado" everything. best vertical drop aprox 150 ft. just a wannabe extreem skiist but still having fun. did i mention tried hang gliding. still not a bad mtn biker "stone mtn ga.". now other son lives in ashville and it's time for the dragon. like i said, gettin old and got stuff to do before i can't. gave myself a pretty good test on skis this year and not bad actually better than i thought, so. it is my life isn't it? |

after reading this I am thinking that you might get bored with the meanstreak! I recomend the 14 just case it can be ridden at the chilled pace the cruiser could reach, and then it can also be ridden quite a bit faster... 200+ you say? take it in and change the chip... and raise the revlimiter.. this should make it to 200 mph+... just remember to do it in the track! I dont want to hear a story of how a zx14 just took off!!!!

Ok,
just an opinion I currently own a 2002 zx 12r and a 2005 meanstreak.if you honestly think you are capable of riding a 170 horsepower bike then I would buy the zx14, personally I think they are ugly. I bought my Meanie to ride 2 up as it was hurting my back to ride the wife on the back of my zx12r. I rode the meanie alot when I first got it , but everytime i go out 7 times out of ten I ride the zx12r. I had one bike to choose it would still be the zx12r. The meanie is not a sportbike while it handles better than most cruisers my wifes zx6r will leave me in the dust in the blink of an eye. I also don't feel comfortable on the meanie past 80mph my zx12 is smoother at a 130 mph than the meanie ie at 80mph I think neither bike is suited for long trips all depends on what kind of pain you want. Lower back on the Meanie and Upper back and wrist pain on the zx14r

if it did come down to the meany i can tell you straight up the bars and pegs go. low bars and rear sets would come for a more european riding position.
looks like a set of custom pipes would be needed to do this. now to me the 4 most important things for a bike is this in this order. braking, handling comfort then performance. because of the first 2 looks like the 14 leads. without the first 2 everything else means little. anyway looks that way to me, thanks for taking the trouble. |
