Why in the heck would you make something pretty simple into a horribly complicated, and expensive design!
yeah, that whole thing is making me sick to my stomach too. don't worry, its not just Ford doing it. all of the automakers design things so that it costs you more to get them fixed and they don't last as long. look at brake rotors now, you can't even turn them anymore, you just have to replace them.

It seems like they are using inferior metals on the rotors. Most of them have what I call worm holes, little black spots on the surface of them, they rot from the inside out making it impossible to turn them.

I need to sell my truck and buy a nice old jeep or truck or something. I could get a welder while I was at it

i hate to say it but that generation F150 has never impressed me. Ford lost me in the 1/2 ton market until they came out with the new body in 04. they redesigned the entire truck and won me right back. now, if only they could make the power that Chevy has been making for years i would be happy, well, sort of

i hear ya on the truck though. my F350 is 10 years old now and just about to hit 160K. just replaced the water pump and she badly needs a rear fuel tank. will be needing ball joints soon, as they usually only last around 80K. also, my transmission leaves a little to be desired. not bad though, cause they usually only do 100K before a rebuild. i just don't feel like dropping $3500 into a proper transmision, at least not right now.

I had 150K miles on my '93 Chevy 1500. Rarely had issue, and when I did, it was easy to fix. I miss the 'ol gal.
"old", key word. the newer things get, the more complicated and expensive. i miss my 86 F150 badly. or even my 83, carburated, even less to worry about.

that and the fact that a lot have to be turned right out of the box. sucks that the industry has gone that way. i think guys like you that are in the business are taking a lot of the heat for it, but it's got nothing to do with you. you have to deal with fixing the crap and then trying to explain to people why it needs to be fixed. its just not that same as it used to be.

Older does tend to be simpler.

good idea, just don't go with an older vehile and expect to drive it daily and not be fixing it. that's why i went with an 02 Jeep, cause i knew i would be driving it a lot. can't wait to pick up another CJ, but you just need to know that if you drive it daily, you will work on it monthly. a lot of old trucks are the same way. simpler technology, easier to fix, but more prone to small things going wrong. not a bad idea if you have the time and pocket change to do it though. buy in cheap and just maintain.

Thanks, knowing that, I'll sleep better tonight. As far as things and how they used to be, forget it, I wouldn't go back 10 years if you paid me to. Things are a lot more money, however, just a decade ago, the average lifespan for a vehicle was no where 250,000 on the average as they are today with moderate maintanance being performed.

no need Bri, we are all friends here and i think we all know the deal. i could care less what anyone drives as they are all going to have their quirks. one guy may hate his vehicle and the next three guys with the same one absolutely love them. its all about what you want, period

that's it. that's why my first project vehicles willl be slightly older. less BS to deal with and parts that are fairly cheap and easy to find. that and the fact that there is a better chance that you can find used parts for them too. newer vehicles tend to mean brand new parts every time you need something.

exactly. even going back the 10 years to when Kyle's truck was made, and you notice that trucks back then weren't lasting much past 100K. back the 100K was really old for a truck. nowadays you buy a used vehicle with 100K and its no big deal.

Oh, I know, I used to own a '90 jeep. Next one will be a CJ though.... I don't mind working on it, just as long as its do-able
