The main reason being that it's pretty much smack in the middle of the Alps, so you can basically get anywhere in the Alps within the day. I'm sure we could invent rides that would make us start begging not to see another corner by mid-afternoon
Did some googling:
(Ponte di Legno) is one of the oldest ski stations in Italy but also a famous summer resort throughout the Alps. Its position is splendid on a sunny plateau at 1260 m above sea level overlooked by the Adamello range. The historic centre is very picturesque and there is also a lively little square. There is no end of things to see in the surrounding country: Case di Viso, Pezzo, Canč, Vescasa and Sant'Apollonia with their stone houses; the Val Grande and the Valle delle Messi, the lakes of Montozzo, Avio and Aviolo with their unspoilt countryside, flowers and animals; and the Parks of Adamello and Stelvio for climbers and Walkers. For sportsmen there is mountaineering, jogging in the woods, mountain-biking, horse-riding, tennis, archery, summer skiing on the Presena glacier, golf on the 9-hole course at Valbondione and fishing in the rivers. In winter Ponte di Legno is a well-equipped resort with pistes for all levels of skier and has artificial snow, cross-country skiing, connection to the Pass at Tonale to make up a single ski area, ice-skating, swimming pools, discotheques and games rooms.

Sounds great to me!

I was going to ask you, "Are you convinced then?" but then I read your last sentence

It puts a smile on my face to read a "stranger" writing about Ponte and surroundings... I was just there this weekend (well duh, you saw the pics) and I just love that place.

In fact about the only thing they didn't mention in that description is the kicka.ss roads for biking all around

Thumbs up

Greetings ... so I'm a wee bit late but carved some roadways this past Sunday in Deer Park, NY ((Hawks Nest & Sparrows Bush))--sorry, forgot to take pix of the signs, I was just happy to be OUT--enjoy.

View from the top lookout over the Delaware River (Rt. 97).

The Dragon (my ZX-9) and The Grey Goose (my wingman's ZX-10R).

The Grey Goose, The Dragon and new local riding buddies.

This is the season opener for me ... i.e., I start my season with this run and end it with this run ...

I didn't get to the scenic parts of the pass because I turned off about 5 miles below the summit, took 244 to Cloudcroft then 82 down to Alamogordo. These are pictures of 82 about half way between Cloudcroft and Alamogordo. Usually you get a pretty good look at White Sands from here but the winds were kicking up and wrecked view.

Good call on keeping this thread alive... and great pics

So how many passes have you all hit? So far my tally (all documented here!) is 3... and rising

These are not my pictures. Since I'm Indian I thought I'll post up some pics from the largest Indian biker community road trip. You can read about this road trip and see a lot more pics here:

http://www.thegreatindianroadtrip.com/

Here are some images from the HIGHEST MOTORABLE ROAD IN THE WORLD at almost 18000ft

These are also pictures from the same group but these are really close to my hometown. Whole mountains here are covered by tea and coffee plantations. These are the roads where I spent most of my time when I was in college!!!

Nice!!!

The 3rd picture, with the winding road carved into the stone, is wicked

So where do we all stand in relation to number of passes - and proof?

I'm still at 4... my bike's still at the shop getting fixed and therefore I haven't been out the last two weekends 3 weekends ago when I had my crash I unfortunately hit one of the passes I've already hit, so it didn't count!

Thanks for keeping this thread alive and great shots! Let's keep them coming!

Trail Ridge Road, the highest continuous road in the United States, with more than eight miles above 11,000 feet and a maximum elevation of 12,183 feet. Although I took these particular pictures on a car trip, this is one of our regular rides in the summer.
