I recently moved to Bethlehem PA from Sarasota FL for a better opportunity with my job. I asked some questions about shipping and wanted to go with one of the dedicated ones, but at $700 bucks it was a bit too steep for my blood....kinda like the ramp I loaded the bike with....but more on that later. After much discussion with the wife I decided to load it on the ABF U-pack truck that was moving all the rest of our stuff.
I figured, I was loading it and tying it down myself, so I could protect it suitably in transit and it would arrive in good shape. Yes, that part was right...I didn't however coun't on the actions of the idiot loading it on the truck...myself! The day came to load the bike and I decided I would ride it up the ramp, and then once in the truck drain the fluids, tie it down and then protect it by putting a cover with padding on it, and packing the mattresses around it. I told my wife I was gonna ride it in and I was worried cause the ramp was steep and the trailer floor was slick...it was an accident waitin to happen! She asked if we should alert the neighbors that Evel Knievel was gonna attempt a stunt in our neighborhood! The ramp and the trailer were at the angle of a standard house roof.....plus the ramp didn't extend out enough to put my feet down at all! I was a bit worried about going to fast and sliding on the trailers floor into all the stuff we already packed or having to stop on the ramp. Well, I went too slow and fell off the ramp half way up....my wife saw it and my neighbor saw it...I scrambled to put my feet down and hit only air! Fortunately I didn't do too much damage...dinged my pipe, and broke a turn signal and scraped the end of the throttle grip and the mirror. When I got my neighbors to help, I was discovered it probably would have been worse if I made it to the top..we had to lift the back end as the fram hit on the crest at the top of the ramp! The bike is here in PA...got new turn signals out of it and I was able to straighten out the pipe. I got a little banged up but not serious! I will try to post pics soon. |

Here is a link to the only pic showing damage....http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/877628/ where the scuff was on the end it was curled in....I used a pair of channellocks and kept opening them in the pipe moving them a 1/4 inch at a time till it was round again.
The pipes were out of alignment, fortunately the exhust studs didn't break, but the hit was hard enough to dent the backside of the pipe with the axle and make the baffle non removable. There are pics of the new turn signals on the site as well...they are the JP Cycles Nostalgic Mini bullets. Last edited by CowboyBob : 04-27-2007 at 05:51 AM. |
