Question Riding Gear

Hey everyone... new to the forum and really enjoying reading through things... and would like your thoughts on riding gear.

Here's the deal: Just bought a new Vulcan 900 LT after not riding for about a year. My commute is 40 miles each way on either some nice back country roads (not too twisty or busy) or on a nice flat stretch of toll road that no one wants to pay to drive on.

I typically wear my Roadcrafter 1 piece suit over my work clothes and a 3/4 helmet with a face shield. I wear boots and pack my work shoes. I wear gloves. I feel very well protected in this gear, and while I realize riding has its risks, I feel as though I'm doing everything I practically can while still choosing to take the cycle to work.

The one problem: The Roadcrafter, even with its zippers and vents, is HOT. I live near Orlando, Florida... and the heat and humidity are brutal in June, July, August and September. I've thought about just going with jeans and a leather jacket but images of leaving the bike unexpectedly come rushing to mind, with me landing on my knees (where the suit has ballistics) or scraping along 50 feet of asphalt, shredding my clothes in the first 18 inches...

Can anyone offer insight as to gear or clothing that might be cooler? Am I being overly worrisome?

Thanks in advance!

Jim

Try these:

Draggin Jeans: Fast Company's KevlarŽ lined Motorcycle Jeans

or

HorneeŽ Jeans - The Official Website - Protective motorcycle gear, with style.

And welcome, and congratulations on the new scoot, and may I compliment you on your extremely good taste in motorcycular transportatory appliances!
