Default Am I the only idiot here?

Twice in a row I have pulled into the garage, turned off bike, removed key and started to lean the bike left and realized after having to force the bike back up (almost dropped) that I forgot the kickstand.

The first time I thought, wow, won't do that again. The second time I thought, I am such an idiot. Guess I'll be making a big sign in front of where I park in the garage that says "PAY ATTENTION IDIOT".

I pulled into a store parking lot once with my son on the back and shut the bike off and while telling him to wait till I get off as I'm leaning the bike over I realize that no kick stand so I'm holding the bike and him on it for what seemed like an eternity till I bring it back up. Thought it was going to land on my son a little scary for both of us....

Get in the habit of shutting down the same way every time....the way I do it is kill switch, kickstand, turn the bars to left lock, key off and steering locked.....

I always put the kickstand down and get the bike set before I turn it off. Of course I've left the key on a few times... If it's not one thing, it's another.

Get in the habit of always parking it in first gear and use the kickstand to kill it. Not likely you will forget to turn the key off afterwards because the headlight will still be on. Works for me anyway. Good luck.

My bike doesn't have a kickstand kill. 1981 KZ440....It only happened once. I think I was in a hurry to get in and out of the store...

I forgot to put the kick stand down once at a gas station and the bike didn't go all the way over. The Floorboard held it until I could get it upright. I couldn't believe it when it didn't fall all the way over.

Don't let it bother ya, we all get distracted every now and then. I pulled in my garage the other day, and for the first time flipped the stand down before I shifted to neutral or shut the bike off, which killed it of course...

[QUOTE=adamp961;742826]i have a friend that stopped at a red light once and forgot to put his feet down and fell over.

When I was young and silly, did that myself after a party and a few to many brews had a mate on the back at the time, he went one way and I went with the bike. Picked it up myself and said to him come on he got back on and we made it home.

have confidence in the fact that you are among many idiots

I however never have this problem... I always put the side stand down before I get off the bike. I can't imagine how weird it would be getting off the bike before doing that.

Not sure this is a good plan for all of us. My headlight isn't on unless the bike is running...

True, we all don't ride the same style of bike and even if we did this is only how I choose to try and avoid a tip over when parking.

1983 KZ650......It'll run all day long with the kickstand down.

You just gotta get in the habit of doing it.

    Red face

I have a suggestion, when you stop to park your bike, put the kickstand down first and it kills the engine, then turn the ignition off, this way you will not drop it, because the kickstand is already down.

I started doing this for I too get the idiot syndrome from time to time!!!

If you hadn't tipped it over by forgetting to put down the stand you would find other creative ways to do it. I know I have, many that weren't in the privacy of my garage.
