So far, the only response I've received is from B.A.D.D., who basically said in order to keep sponsors, they focus more on supporting the families of victims than actually working toward prevention (the underlying story being that they're based at Bruce Rossmeyer's Harley-Davidson in Daytona, and if he wants to keep his office space/HQ there, he has to keep quiet, since there's a bar on site.... he actually read me the response from Bruce Rossmeyer's Attorney *eye roll*)

But I've got several other people who are approaching GEICO about this; it's really them I'm anxious to hear from (because I'd be willing to bet their corp. offices wouldn't approve of this kind of thing). I'll keep ya posted.
And there you go, the almighty dollar.

OK I am quite sure I'm about to be flamed, so let it be said first that I do not drink at all, but here I go anyway...

1) Aren't most bike nights at bars (I know there are exceptions)? I mean, aren't these people drinking anyway? Is one free beer going to make them drink and drive? I would argue that the idiots that would ride after drinking, were going to do it anyway, regardless of who's name was on the advertisement, or if their first beer is free.

2) It's not like they are saying "Go get hammered and jump on your bike right away". I'm sure that anyone of the sponsers would suggest drinking responsibly.

3) Would the reaction be any different if Anheiser Bush was handing out the free drinks? If it would not be, then I would agree with your response. Insurance companies LOSE money off of their insured getting in alcohol related accidents, they have no incentive to try and get people to drink and drive...

4) What are the chances that Geiko didn't aprove the free beers? Maybe the venue simply had a blanket contract that made the them think that they should put Geiko's name on the coupon, and Geiko had no previous knowlege of that being done.

5) Oh yeah, and aren't most bike nights at bars?!?!?!?

Good point... Same thing though, they would be shooting themselves in the foot since the insurance company loses money off of claims.

Oh I didn't read your comment about anheiser-busch at first, that was a coincidence...

I agree that Geico would seem to be at cross-purposes here, unless they get kick-backs from ambulance companies...

Seriously, I've never liked Geico. They spend more money on advertising by a long shot than any other insurance company (in our market, they are the largest spending advertiser, period). You can't spend the most on advertising, have the best customer service, the lowest rates, and pay your customers the best on their claims at the same time. Something's got to give, and it's obviously not the advertising.

Never had any direct business with them, but I do have a business degree.

Cheers!

John
