I go with the flow of traffic what ever that speed is. Never been inspected, yet.

2nd time: in a construction zone (50) but the exit ramp is 70 it doesn't say were the construction ends. So took the exit ramp at 76. Could have ran from the cop easily, but decided to pull over and wait for her to get in her truck and drive to "catch me". $350 ticket avoid by talking to her. She said that she didn't think I was right, but the only reason she ripped up the ticket was becuase she thought I was a nice, young man caught in the stereotypically look of a supersport rider.

3rd: was with a friend and the motorcycle cop tags a car in front of us for speeding, but waves the car through and calls us over. He said "I know you guys were speeding because the car in front was doing 90 in a 70" (I was thinking in my head you're an idiot, thanks for almost letting us get run over becuase you made everyone stop to get us two lanes away) in all fairness we were speeding, but we slowed down to 70 becuase we know a cop is on that road everyday in the same spot. Cop didn't give us the ticket but was being a real jerk about how we should "watch it". He later admitted he was bored and wanted to talk to someone about bikes...we thanked him for making us 1 hour late for supper with my friends mom and dad.

4th: pulled over becuase I "gunned" my engine when the lights turned green. Was way under speed limit, like 30 in a 50...(the new pipe makes it sound like I'm really giving it)

5th: same as forth and cop wanted to write me a $400 stunting ticket, but couldn't find his ticket pad.

So there are the 5 reasons why I was pulled over this season. Only 1 ticket, but my god was it annoying and felt like a routine I had to go through every time I got on the bike.
I am not saying this to start any crap, but it seems to me like you get pulled over because you deserved it, as you admit. When you drive like you do, you are asking to be pulled over. If you ride within the limits of the law, the police should not have any reason to pull you over and you can be on time for dinner.

In 32 years of operating a motor vehicle, cars and bikes, I've only been stopped once, and that was two years ago. I had gotten my new tags for the Jeep and forgot to put them on (Senior moment).

The officer asked If I had my new tags and when I pulled them out of the glove box, he waited for me to put them on. My 16 year old daughter was in the car with a couple of her friends and really had a good laugh at the ole man that day.

0 Times. I'm sure there is a Bias aginst Sports Riders. I don't see any Cruiser Riders cutting off traffic on the shoulders or wheely-ing it at 90 on 2 lanes or front tire rise n' stops in parking lots in town all while dressed in the latest tee's and shorts and flops but I sure see it from the Squids on Sport Bikes/Naked Bikes. I know not every Sport Biker engages in this kind of behaviour but the ones who do are sure noticable, just like us Cruisers when we gun the loud pipes and dress to excess in black leather minus the Brain Lid. Broad generalizations, I know, but I'm trying to make a point. My point is, the Cops notice it too and the ones who insist on being a living Stereotype of all thats questionable about being a Motorcyclist eventually bring that baggage home to everyone of us.

I've never been pulled over on a bike (and that's guaranteed not to change soon ).

The last time I got a ticket was 1985 -driving a pick-up.

Nope. It's unconstitutional to pull someone over for their skin color, religion, sex, etc, but you can be pulled over all day long for the type of vehicle you're driving. All it takes is for there to be probable cause, such as a want out for a crime suspect who approximates your description. Something really detailed, like "A guy on a motorcycle wearing a helmet."

Doesn't matter. YOU are the one getting the ticket. It is no defense in court to say that you were speeding because everyone else was speeding.

Quote:
as far as 'checking my inspection' the cop just pulled me over to hassle me, and i got let off.
You may be right, some areas are sportbike-unfriendly, as are some traffic cops. You may also have been pulled over because there was an outstanding suspect in a crime who rides a crotch rocket. Or because the cop was trolling for other violations. Or because his Watch Commander put out the word that the City Council wanted motorcycle enforcement ramped up. Any number of reasons.

1) Right after I got new bike, cop I know in Soco pulled me over to look at it
2) Got pulled over for no plate visible 2 days after buying my bike... Temp tag blew off, cop followed me to DMV so I could get another one
3) 'Nother one of cop wantin to look at the bike
4) Got ticket for no eye protection while riding. Happened to be out later than I thought and all I had was my mirror shield, so I was riding with it up. Cop didn't show up for court, so I walked
5) Verbal warning for 40 in a 35mph curvy area (part of Sandia Crest)
You lucked out -- I guess the NM cops have more time to do actual law enforcement instead of just having to hammer out the ticket then look for the next violator. That's the only way to explain the cop following you to Motor Vehicles instead of just issuing the citation (it wouldn't have hurt you anyhow, since you could prove legal registration it would have been like a fix-it ticket).

Yep, you walked on the eye-protection . . .but you haven't missed since then, have you? Like I said, they're doing law enforcement, not citation stacking.

In a case like that, I'd take it to court.

That's 6 over the legal limit even without the construction.

Just FYI, NEVER speed up on an offramp. If you were legal in the construction, just droozle on down the ramp at the same speed.

He didn't make you late for anything. YOU made you late, for being TWENTY OVER THE SPEED LIMIT.

And you gripe that he let you go with The Lecture! Would you be happier if he had cited (or arrested) the two of your, hooked your bikes and had you call Mom and Dad to come get you? That would have made you even later for dinner, cost you a few hundred dollars, put a violation on your record to boost your insurance (and maybe get your license pulled) and in general been a real pain for you, while giving the cop Brownie Points when his next Performance Review comes up.

No, instead he chews on you a little while then lets you go.

Yeah, what a JERK.

"Loud pipes save cops the trouble of looking for someone to pull over." I'd LOVE to see THAT patch on soe guy's jacket!

Not hardly! He let you off with the little violation and warned you about the big one you could have gotten.

Then RIDE POLITELY in the future! How many times do you need to be told before it sticks?

Just to give you a hint, most cops would have given you every one of those citations, and if your area works like this one, that would stack up enough points that you'd be on the bus for the next 3 years.

If that was the question, then YES, there IS a biased stereotype against crotch rockets. You see very few Gold Wings popping wheelies down the freeway, jinking through traffic 20 MPH over the limit, etc.

The same stereotype is tossed onto the rice rocket guys, for similar reasons.

Simply put, a guy on a high-performance bike or car bought it instead of all the other kinds they could have had. They picked it for a reason, and generally that reason is the Ricky Racer image. It's like they -- YOU -- are wearing a sign saying "Everybody watch this!" or "I like to drive fast."

Before you bleat the standard excuses, yes, I know and AGREE that the sport bike is a technologically advanced work of art in steel, aluminum and graphite. I can appreciate that as much as anyone. But that's not why you bought yours, or why anyone else on the road bought theirs. You bought it for the image and for the performance.

The problem is that, outside the community of sportbike riders, that image isn't really all that good. And the performance is way higher than you need for the street, thus way too tempting for too many guys. It's been too tempting for YOU, if you are being honest with yourself. You've pushed past the speed limit, weaved in and out of traffic, and thrilled to the sheer power and maneuverability that you have. Just about every motorcycle rider does that, so don't feel like I'm picking on you. But you are more OBVIOUS when you do it, because you look faster than you really are.

Does that mean that you don't have the right to a crotch rocket? Not at all! But you have to live with the image problem, even if you are one of the sportbike riders who is a responsible, safe rider.

Sorry, my baaaad. But remember, where there's a wool, there's a way.

I meant "sheer power," which is like a foxy lady in see-through lingerie.

I can' believe you can get a ticket for not wearing eye protection. That's laughable.

The plate issue was in Socorro, which is a small town where the cops didn't have much to do that day apparently. Plus I knew the cop and he didn't want me to have to take off time to go to the court house and straighten it out.

What do you mean missed since then? Yes I walked on the eye protection, and I've made sure I keep come clear lenses for my Oakley Half Jackets with me at all times now (those count as eye protection ) just in case
