Been pulled over twice this season.
First time was for the placement of my tag. Cop wrote me a ticket and my lawyer buddy got it thrown out. 2nd was a written warning for the tag placement again. knock on wood....i'm hoping that's it for a loooong time.

Well here in Canada you're allowed 7km/h over the speed limit before they ticket you. So going 6 over wasn't the problem. And when I quoted "gunned" I didn't really mean I gunned my engine it was meant that it sounded like I did.

Also per the title of the thread....ZERO so far. I'm too scared to be riding fast and the consequences that awaits me.

they must not have told anybody driving the 401/402/403/QEW between buffalo and port huron... I've ran that road many times at about 140kph and had people (including the OPP) absolutely blow by me like I wasn't even there...

^^^ I hear ya there.
I used to drive up to York University a lot to go party with friends on that side of the border. Driving my Acura Integra I'd easily be doing 90 MPH and still getting passed by just about everybody on the QEW and 401. Coming off the Skyway bridge just outside of Burlington I hit 110-115 a few times and STILL got passed. But on the bike so far this year I haven't been pulled over at all :knocking on wood: I usually ride with the flow of traffic in town. I try to blend in...as much as a green sport bike can possibly blend in with a bunch of cages. My goal is to not give police any reason to look twice. So far it's working, but it's becoming increasingly difficult in Denver with riders being singled out these days.

Once, actually. By the guy on the bicycle,
Hey, he didn't ticket me, and I got to show someone that shiny new license I've only taken it past the speed limit on the clear, open, un-busy road. Where I can see for miles and miles, and miles and miles, and miiiiiiiiiiles..... |

This is URBAN LEGEND. You can be cited for ANY speed over the posted limit. As a GENERAL RULE, traffic cops will give you 5 or even 8 MPH over the limit before they will bother -- after all, someone else will soon come by doing 10 or 15 over the limit, especially where there are a lot of motorcycles -- but if I were you, I wouldn't count on it. The officer may be about to go off duty for the day, and want to get one more citation in the book on the way home. As far as the engine noise, you KNOW that you sound faster than you are going, the same way a sportbike LOOKS faster. Given those two conditions, you are likely to get more citations than the guy on the Gold Wing, even at the same speed. He will get more citations than the soccer mom in the SUV, even if he's riding the same speed, because he's on a motorcycle. That's just how it works. The only way to avoid citations is to avoid attracting the attention of anyone who can write them. Let the traffic cop go after someone else, instead of daring him to chase you down. BTW, every once in a while, you will hear someone complain about "selective enorcement." ALL enforcement is "selective," because they can't stop everybody, no matter where you are. They go for the ones who look the most likely to need the "correction." A cop can go his whole career in traffic enforcement, and never write a citation for anything but crotch rockets, and be PERFECTLY WITHIN THE LAW. There is no quota system determining who gets the next roadside chat. |

That's nothing -- try the stretch of Interstate 10 between Chiriaco Summit and the River. YHEEEH! I went through there one time and estimated the CHP guys to be running over twice the limit. But there are a lot of miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles through there, and they have to rocket through there to cover the territory when there are accidents, drunks, etc to corral.

I had to quit riding with my grandma, she was scaring me. the brake on my side of the car didn't work good enough.
I don't want to answer this question so I don't break my luck on this. it's the only good luck I've had for a while.

well I know for a fact that it was standing policy in the county I live in ('bout 10 years ago) , as my uncles best friend was the chief deputy at the time and told me as such.

I had been let go for 7 miles over but ticketed for 8 over.
I did get let go one time on the bike. last year. he said he clocked me with front and rear radars. 120something on the front and more with the rear. he said he let me go because I didn't try to run. that was 60+ over. he must not have locked me in.

twice so far this past season.
1.at certain times at night the traffic lights will flash red or yellow. i stopped at the red and proceeded on,only to be pulled over for running a red light. no ticket!!! the officer was more concerned for my safety and to remind me that the lights don't always flash. 2. i deserved it. 72 in a 60. he came up over the hill and i immeadiatly attempted to slow down. as soon as he made move to the shoulder to spin around and catch me....i pulled over. he let me go on the speeding, but noted that i did not have my up to date insurance info on me. i had an older one,but not the current. notice to appear in court was issued and i was able to fax the proof in. i think he let me go because freda can pout quite well.... ![]() |

Alot of you guys are quoting figures of how many MPH you are "given" before you get a ticket, I can tell you for a fact, this varies from officer to officer, and department to department. Some will give you 5 but not 6, some will give you 10 but not 11, some will give you more than that, some will enforce the speed limit giving you zero tolorance, if you are 1 over, you get a ticket. Some agencies "dictate" policy to officers and they are expected to follow that policy. Others have "revolving" rules / policy that change based on drivers attitude, appearance, mannerisms, vocabulary and cooperation level, as well as the officers personal status. (having a good day, bad day, had a jerk give him a bad time during prior stop, recent accident investigation involving similar type vehicle, biased stereotyping of bikers etc) I am not saying I agree with this way of enforcing the law but unfortunately alot of times that is just the way it is.

Well I haven't been pulled over... but I have pulled over a few. Unless they get an attitude I'm really cool about it. Attitude has a lot to do with it. I won't speak for all Troopers or cops but to me it does. A lot of times with sport bikes I am really lenient, because I know they could very easily not have stopped and I don't want to encourage something like that. Again, here is my disclaimer, not all cops are "cool" like me about it. Best advice, don't be a arrogant prick and your chances are much better. I know there are cops that are jerks, and they **** the "cool" ones off, but don't believe we are all like that. Us that actually care about the public we swore to protect are always very professional and respectful and demand that same respect.
Plus, if you are speeding, all bs aside, you deserve a ticket just like everybody else... bottom line. And no... I won't get rid of your ticket for you. |

Oh, and.... yes we can pull you over for 71 in a 70 and no we don't have to "lock it in". Yes, I can use pace, lidar, stopwatch or, something that is becoming more common here in KS, by aircraft. And... no I don't have to show you your speed and yes I can hide wherever I want.
Any other questions.... |

For that matter, you don't have to be behind the violator -- you can roll the speed limit and whack the guy who comes blasting up behind you (until he realizes that the CV in front of him is a traffic slick)! Someday I'm going to write a book, listing all of the urban legends that people "know" are true about traffic enforcement, then explaining why they are wrong. I think a chapter will be titled "Your Mileage May Vary," and show the differences in traffic laws between various states, just to REALLY confuse people. |
