I am guilty of number 5. Just did it on the way home today. I feel like such an idiot.

I ran out of gas while making a left turn, so I coasted to the side, put down the kickstand, got off, switched it to reserve, got back on. Wasn't starting, so I thought maybe I didnt turn the switch all the way so I got back off to check it, but didn't realize I'd kicked the sidestand back up, and by the time I realized it was up, my right leg was already swinging over and the weight was so tipped over and it went down on the left side. Damage was purely cosmetic, and only a couple chips. I was surprised how easy it was to lift it back up though for a 400+ pound bike.

I'm really ****ed off at myself for doing that

Here's a few I've personally tested

1: Running over a coiled up garden hose left in front of my parking spot
2: Not realizing the rain was penetrating and loosening the left handlegrip
3: Installing too short a throttle cable, which, when the bars are turned to the left- opens the throttle. That one looked intentional, and was quite a show for the spectators, but still ended in a flurry of sparks and road rash.

12. Losing balance when putting it on the centerstand.

A week after i bought it brand new and had to lube the chain for the first time. but i dropped it nice and slow, minor scratch to exhaust and end of handle bar.

I've dropped a couple dirt bikes (not that they really count)...twice hitting the front brake to hard while turning. Once just got bogged down on an incline in some loose gravel/sand fell over.

I almost dropped my dads '81 CB900 (fully fairing and trunk) that he had...first time riding a real motorcycle. Pulled up to a stop sign with the bars slightly turned and it started to lean muscled it back up luckly while learning my first lesson on riding all at once haha I'm sure there will be more to come, but hopefully not.

Too many to list... but the most embarrassing was dropping a friends 89 katana after he let me ride it by pulling over to the side of the road and going to put my right foot down first.

Think drainage ditch.

So there I am at the bottom of the ditch with a motorcycle on top of me, poor guy, all he could do was stand there and watch it happen. He was nice enough to pull it off me though =-D

The second most embarrassing was when I got off the bike, forgot to put the stand down, and it fell over a good 3 steps AFTER I had walked away from it...

I never saw it happen, but I heard a crashing sound behind me as I was removing my helmet followed by someone asking "Who's bike was that?".

Makes you feel like you are in a Southwest Airlines commercial...

My plan is to not drop mine [as I stick my fingers in ears]. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.
No, you cant tell me different.

this thread makes me feel better...

one that wasn't on the list:

long day at work, 30 mile ride as the weather is beaut, 2 hour kickboxing session followed by a 15mile ride home (to cool off)... pull up on drive, put side stand down, transfer weight to side stand, swing leg over bike... d'oh.... not enough energy/legs and arms like jelly... managed push bike over... then spend a little while trying to lift the fecker back up. luckily the neighbour heard me swear and came to help me. no damage luckily.

also there was the time i pulled up to turn onto a busy road... didnt notice the deep pothole... bent clutch lever.

Pushing it forward and getting your leg caught under the passenger floorboards.

ALMOST happened a few times. Wife learned to fold the boards up when she gets off.

The very first time I rode my bike (and first time i ever rode a motorcycle) i made it 20 yards from my house and a car came flying out in front of me and i swerved/dumped into a shrub. my bike and i were both fine but the shrub was not.

Was it a quality shrubbery? Were there any knights involved? Did they say "Ni"?

INSERT RANT HERE:

I drove 40 miles yest. to go see a used CBR w/ a "some minor damage on right fairing" w/ a good price and find a bike that has been dropped every which way - every single fairing on the bike was messed up, and when I considered having it repainted at the right price, the guy tells me that he's had lots of interest and isn't negotiating on the price. YOU PROBABLY HAVE A LOT OF INTEREST BECAUSE YOU'RE SELLING A $%&*ED UP BIKE AS "SLIGHTLY DAMAGED." Grrrrrrrr

END RANT

i had a few of those along my bike buying voyage. i finally bought a bike from a guy describing what i thought was an old antique, but ended up being a well-aged gem!

and luckily the knights of Ni were not involved, though it definitely would have made for a better story. the shrub was pretty nice too. emphasis on "was"

Default damn it!

went to go close the garage door, put the bike on the kickstand, got off, walked over to the garage door and .... ***crash**** Still not sure what happened - maybe didn't have the wheel turned enough. Oil spilled all over the place. Had to tow it to the shop to get a new engine cover and seal.
