So is it legal to just use integrated mirrors and no turn signals for the front? I know bikes (like the ducati 84
![]() It would be sweet to bondo in that hole where the turn signals go in and re-paint the bike

far as I know, as long as you have them they don't need to be in the stock location but, you live in a different state so maybe someone from there will chime in.

You'll have to check with your local state. A good source might be your instructor from the local MSF if you took it. If I recall right, MN doesn't even require turn signals so just having them is a bonus. Just make sure they're visible and don't distract you.

As far as I can tell California only "requires turn signals" so I guess that these would fly?
I am taking the MSF course in two weeks

In general, aftermarket parts are not DOT approved or legal as actual replacements. This goes for many LED bulb replacements as well.
Does that mean you'll get a ticket? Probably not. Does it mean that you'll have a problem if your state requires inspections? It depends on the inspector.

The vehicle code does allow for the CHP to set up random safety inspections, just like DUI checkpoints, but I haven't seen one done other than for commercial vehicles in 25 years.

Even if we did have inspections here in Cali, like "Joe Inspector" would know the difference between a bike that started off with OEM integrated mirrors vs a bike with after market ones...unless he's really bored and looks for the DOT mark on the lense.

The only thing we ever see here in the steeets are DUI check points --the CHP have better things to do than have a "Safety" check point to see if everyone has legal turn signals or exhausts. Do you have a fender eliminator on your bike? If you do, oops...the LEO's can cite you for removing the reflectors on the back end of your bike. From my experience, integrated signals are about where reflectors are on the list of offenses that you can get a ticket for...at the bottom.

As far as the type of ticket, it will most likely be a "fixit"... reverse the mod, get it signed off, and I think it's a $10 processing fee. If the cop wants to be a jerk, he could "red tag" the vehicle, meaning that you would have to tow it home. Like edian said... you aren't going to get pulled over for it. If you are pulled over for something else, your attitude combined with the cop's attitude toward sportbikers will determine what you get cited for.

I wouldnt stress it, in general, the sheriffs here are decent folk, as long as you arnt being too squidly, or being a jerk when they pull you over. In all the years, I have only run into 1 jerk cop................. I have received a few tickets, you would be surprised at how far a good morning and a hand shake will get ya, even when I got my pipe ticket, he was respectful he just believed I was wrong now, you live in Orange county, when you riding with us ???????????
