There were some questions about installation asked in my bar end mirrors thread. Much like fretbuzz, I'm sure that NCDave won't mind if say that his asking me about the mirrors is what finally got me to take some pics (along with the fact that I finally picked up some LocTite for the everything that's rattling loose on my bike). So without further delay...
This is what the handle bar looked like on my bike without the bar end weight on the left side: ![]() This is what the base of the mirror measured at (as you can see, the mirror base is wider that the space between the end of the grip and fatter part of the bar. I used three washers as spacers so that the weight wouldn't shove the mirror base into the grip thus smushing it...yes, "smush" is an engineering term!): ![]() Another view of the mirror base mounted on the bar (what I did is I mounted the mirror on tight enough so that it wouldn't rotate around the bar. Then I put the weight back on and then I tightened the mirror base after I pushed it against the bar end): ![]() A pic of the three washers used as spacers for the left side: ![]() I couldn't let the right bar end shove the mirror base into the right grip because it would make the throttle stick. So I used four washers on the right side to make sure that there was no way that the mirror base would get moved over to the grip thus making it stick. I mounted the mirror 80% of the way, I installed the bar end. After the bar end was tight, I tightened the mirror base all of the way making sure that it didn't inhibit the throttle's movement. Here is the right mirror without the bar end, you can see how much less of the base is on the bar: ![]() Here is a pic to show the gaps between the grip, the mirror base and the bar end; I probably could've taken one washer out but the mirror hasn't moved and it feels real solid so I'm fine with the way it is. You may want to get washers of different thicknesses if you want to eliminate that kind of gap. I haven't noticed any kind of difference with the spacers moving the both bar ends out. I have been checking the right mirror to make sure that it isn't getting loose and it has been solid all week: ![]() This is how far the left mirror sticks out: ![]() Front view and rear view: ![]() ![]() What I like about the bar end mirrors:
