So today one of my friends showed me a trick to make a "u turn" in one spot with the bike.
I had never seen anyone do it or heard of it, but he claims he's done it with the last 3 bikes he's owned, including a cbr1000rr and a ducati 1098 and never dropped the bike. I tried to find a video on youtube because its kind of hard to explain but no luck. Basically the technique is this: Stand on the left side of the bike, bars locked to the left. Grab left grip and right passenger footpeg. Pull on the peg, picking the rear wheel off the ground onto the kickstand. Then, when the rear wheel is off the ground, you pull on the front and lift that off the ground and pivot the bike counterclockwise, setting it down facing 180 degrees from the original direction. The first time I tried it it was kind of scary, especially since my bike is pretty heavy, but I got it down. I use it to flip it around in my garage so I wont have to duck walk it backwards to get out anymore. Any opinions? |

When I went on a group ride with some sportbike guys in Honolulu, they all did this trick. Made it look easy, too.
I didn't even try, I think somehow replicating this trick with my HD Fat Boy, which I happened to be riding that night, would be rather difficult.

The key is to go in the direction daemon shows in the video. The other way would collapse the kick stand. Do'h!
I'm not sure I'd try this with a heavy KZ, though.

I discovered the trick thanks to Daemon who posted that a while back.
It was quite hairy at first (a "leap of faith" of sorts I learned the trick not to show off but because I too would have to walk the bike in backwards in my garage, and this trick made it easier to just walk it in forwards and flip it. I used the trick for a while, but then noticed that the side-stand was getting looser, which a couple of times caused the bike to unbalance itself off the stand and if I hadn't managed to hold it up with brute strength I would have dropped it. So I stopped doing it. To this day my side-stand will not retract completely unless I follow it with my foot. I now just walk the bike into the garage backwards. From my experience, I would recommend people not to use this trick on a regular basis, but only if they're in a "tight spot" every now and again.

Additionally, the kickstand is NOT designed to take the rotaional or torional loads on the pin and mounting brackets, your asking for trouble pulling stunts like that!

1) At my age, I'd never be able to stand up straight again. 2) My bike would come alive and beat me silly with my own helmet. 3) I'd need to use salad tongs through my anus to retrieve my now herniated testicles from somewhere just slightly below and to the right of my throat.
