Default Versys on-board vid (squidly).

While I can't condone this guys riding style, this video helps answer some questions about the speeds attainable on the Versys. Numbers on the display are KPH, but still, this guy is haulin' the mail..

That'll quiet any comments about whether a "little" 650 has enough juice for the highway or not.

Anyone who doubts that is just proving they nothing about bikes, bross. I know, they are out there.

And generally convinced that 1500cc constitutes "middle weight".

I saw 180 kph at least twice which works out to about 111 MPH. Assuming the standard 10% speedo optimism, it's safe to assume that he was hitting the Ton regularly.

I love the sound of that 650 twin.

Yes, and if you'll notice, it sounds like the motor still has a bit left to give even when it's already wound up pretty dang far.

Gotta love the twins.

While I admire anyone that has the nerve to do that type of driving, I still consider that style totally unsafe. Lane-splitting, passing on the outside edge of the right lane / left lane, weaving in-out between traffic, cars having to attempt to move over and not knowing what you're going to do (so they simply split 2 lanes), driving too close, and the tunnel-driving looks like the guy has a death wish. I absolutely love to ride, and ride fast sometimes, but that style bothers me. He certainly has a lot of faith in those other drivers. I never trust those guys. I wish him well - he certainly seems to be enjoying himself. If I were a driving instructor, I'd use this vid to show what NOT to do on the highway. Waaaaay too many unnecessary risks IMO. Ah well - getting old can do this to you I guess.

It's obvious that video wasn't shot in the USA. Europe is my guess and a bit of nutty behaviour seems to be tolerated over there.

It also answers any question about whether a "mere" 650 should get a lower insurance rate than a Z1000.

SQUID. however, the abilities of the bike presented is exactly why I love my 650R. I did an indicated 135 on a deserted back road and still had 1 grand on the tach. it WILL run!

Nice bike. Just imagine if it was a literbike. That Versys would have gotten passed like he was standing still!
