Isn't that the point people who don't wear helmets are trying to make - that it should be choice? My choice is to wear a helmet because it gives me that added bit of safety if something bad happens. It's the same reason I wear riding gloves, boots and an armored jacket. There are no laws here stating I have to wear them, but I still do.

Likewise, there is no law saying I have to have my bike inspected in Connecticut. No emissions, no mechanical...nothing. However, I choose to maintain my bike properly for my own safety. However, I don't feel the need to pay someone else to tell me I've done it if they don't require it.

There are a lot of things I do because I feel it's the right thing for me to do that don't have laws requiring it.

For some unknown reason, birth control comes to mind.

I get people telling me that I shouldn't wear a fullface whilst riding my Vulcan...their logic being it doesn't look cool on a cruiser ......I ask them if they have ever bounced their face of the pavement at 30 or more mph...they shut up at that point.

I bounced my head off the pavement, dirt, sand many times while riding my 10 speed when I was younger....would hate to think what the increased mph on a MC would do without a helmet......you never know, it may knock some sense into me though.

Though AZ does not require, by law, that I wear a helmet, I do all the time now. I didn't for awhile, but never again.

I wonder though, how many people that don't wear helemts, have little kinds that skateboard or ride bicycles and "require" them to wear the gear for protection?

I drive a high performance muscle car, and I wear a helmet; because I've seen what concrete can do to a human head going through a widshield or bouncing off something hard at 65mph.
I'll be wearing a helmet when I get my 454LTD too.
although I can appreciate the sense of freedom that one gets while blowing in the wind, safety first is crucial.

Yes, but so far it's being civil. Let's hope it stays that way.

Actually, I just remembered that M*A*S*H is 4077, so it wasn't as cool as I originally thought. Oh well. The moment has passed, anyway.

Hey..it's called Darwinism. Survival of the fittest sometimes means survival of the smartest. As bad as I hate to see someone get hurt, if they can't see the good reasoning behind wearing a helmet/gear then there's one less moron in the gene pool. I know that's harsh but geez.....c'mon.

I'm required to wear one, but even if I wasn't I would still be wearing one. I wont even wear a half helmet just because if God forbid I bounce my face on the ground I'd feel like such a total moron because I could have prevented some serious injury.

I drove down the street to a gas station in shorts and a t shirt once and I felt naked.

CT never had a helmet law. My Dad and Bother never wore one - They taught me when I 1st started riding I never would even consider wearing one. That was 19 years ago, My Dad and Brother still won't wear one - but I do about 90% of the time - there are those times I just go rebel style - my choice.

Personally, I wear mine every where I go...even if I'm going to my friend's house 1 mile away on back roads. Kind of like seat belts, it's just something I'm in the habit of doing.

Anyhow, I've noticed that non-helmet wearers are always very quick to point out that they don't wear one whenever they're around someone who does. And it'll come up out of nowhere! No conversation leads to it...they just feel the need to point it out. It's kind of funny to me. Anyone else ever notice this?
yeah, when the funeral director is recommending a closed casket.

None of the voices in my head can really disagree there. lol. It's less the specific of the helmet law and more I just don't like government over-regulating things. Protecting consumers is one thing...protecting people from themselves I think is a waste of time. Stupid people breed enough as it is!
