Thumbs down 33K, yeah right!

I think the new Indian company shot it's self in the foot. This is the only time *gulp* I wish for Harley prices.

God Almighty! 34000 dollars for the 'Vintage' Chief. That 18000 dollar Victory Vision 'Street' Premium is looking better all the time. Whew, *goes out and pets his Drifter*

34,000 "without the spiffy paint job". They can keep it.

I think they probably know exactly what they're doing. Remember, they're being resuscitated by the company that brought back the Chris Craft brand. I bet they sell every one they can manage to produce.

Their market is the same guys that don't mind dropping $70-$100K on a car. Their service and support is going to have to be absolutely first-class.

They're going to have to have first class service if this batch of Indians are anything like the last batch.

Even if I was one of those that could drop an easy 100K on a cycle, I don't think I would go for this one. For that amount of money, I need something that truly breaks the mold (mechanically or visually) and not just for a logo/name.

$35k in today's economy? I don't think that dog's gonna hunt.

That's the real problem. It's not that Indian can't charge that much, for other bike builders (customs) have, it's that not enough people in today's economy will be willing to pay. Companies are struggling or going down as liquid funds from home refinancing to the Yuppie class of buyers dries up like the Dust Bowl.

[adds] After looking at the pictures I wish that Indian would redesign the primary drive covers - it's too much like a Harley for comfort considering (thinking like a buyer) I'm paying 34K for a "non-Harley".

I also wish (dreaming here) that they would have stepped "out of the box" a bit more for the new Indian, like an alloy (or part alloy) frame to reduce weight and give the design some really snazzy appeal. Regretfully IMHO besides the deep fenders, the engine and the console too much of the bike looks "parts bin" to my eyes to justify 34K (the headlight is SO yesterday - seen it everywhere).

Maybe that's why I am so fond of Victory - a company willing to step out of the box, beyond simple "American Biker" marketing, whenever it wants to.

34k is steep - but I saw an Indian the other day -don't know if an 09 or one from a few years ago - sorry - I'd take a drifter

Someone will buy them - why -get some non proven technology for 34k - but they will be in someones collection

I remember when the Excelsior-Henderson brand came "back" for a while (late-90's?) and I looked at some of the models at a local dealer. Well, they were priced over Harleys, so I was kind of surprised.

Yeah, they went under fairly quickly - bankruptcy, and stock became worthless.

Yeah. Regretfully EH put too much of the investment monies into the new factory and selling the "lifestyle", rather than concentrating on simply getting the product out and into as many (good) dealers as possible.

The cruiser market is a tough one to get into. With HD on top, it's tough to compete being the unknown. Victory seems to be having success I would say mostly because of Polaris deep pockets. The metric dealers make there money on sportbikes. If any of the metric builders decided to only produce cruisers. they would have a tough time at it.

If they would offer a comparable product at a lower price than HD they would have a better chance. I think this new company is on the same path as the old company.

I think they should have taken HD head on. At least price wise, give people a choice. Indian still has that heritage appeal that would be able to pull some customers. Not now, what a stupid move. Shoot, I was actually looking forward to them coming back.

I’ll just find a used Drifter and call it done.
