Thinking about taking a ride this weekend out to western MA. Saw local tv program Chronicle earlier tonight - Rt 2 (Mohawk Trail) looks like it might be a nice ride. Any other routes or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Kinda of late replying but if you go over Rt. 2 which is a great ride then after you go over the big mountain (LOL) and around the hair pin turn follow rt. 8 south thru Adams and Pittsfield. From there take Rt. 9 East and it will bring you back to Rt. 91 in Northampton, Ma. Follow Rt. 9 thru Hadley then take Rt. 202 North back to Rt. 2 East. Fantastic Ride. Did that a couple weeks ago.

Straight out of the State if you have after market pipes, removed side reflectors or a bunch of other things. Mass is making a big movement to enforce everything they can against motorcycle riders.

These signs are all over the state. Doesn't look like the state (state signs motorcycles are everywhere) is against them like you say.

I ended up heading north on Rt 1 instead. My computer was acting up (think 2001:A Space Odyssey, "I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that". LOL)
So I couldn't look up how to get to Rt 2. So I decided to just head up Rt 1 which is right near my house. I planned on getting to the Maine border and taking a cell phone picture then decide what to do from there, but somehow got lost north of Portsmouth, ended up in Dover somewhere (not on Rt 1). Turned around and headed home. Mostly because my azz was getting sore. LOL. Watch out while riding in NH! I saw LOTS of NH troopers out on the highway!!

Later I'll do a map of a few rides in the Western part of the state. Got some nice country roads. You probably could of taken Rt. 16 out of Medford to rt.2. Would of been a long ride going out the Mohawk Trail but well worth it. Roads aren't too bad after you get on the other side of 495. Lots of nice country riding a few good twisties and sweeps. From Medford out to Adams Ma. on Rt.2 (Mohawk Trail) would take you about 3 hours 127 miles. Hardly any lights along the way. You'll also go over the French King Bridge which is a nice photo spot.

Seadog. A Ma state trooper who is a member on another forum posted about the directives that they received. They just updated their inspection codes which were from 1948. He wanted to give a heads up to other board members who might be traveling In Ma.

Thanks. I hadn't heard about that. Usually with the locals I'm kept updated but like everything else we don't hear it all. I know a lot of states and cities are cracking down on the louder pipes which is one reason I've kept mine stock plus leaving for work around 3 a.m. wouldn't set good with the neighbors. LOL

In the papers last month they said how the troopers were told to ticket more people on the 95/128 section of highway to generate more revenue for road repairs. Papers said the troopers were told not writing enough tickets.

I think one of the difficulties of forums and the internet is people can be who they want to be and there is no sure way to be sure of it. I'm not saying lh4x4 is mis informed since I'm not aware of the info but anyone can say they are a cop, mechanic, ceo, whatever on a forum without proof to back it up. I find it hard to believe when on one hand the state is spending large sums of money to promote Motorcycle awareness and safety towards them then on the other hand the statement "Mass is making a big movement to enforce everything they can against motorcycle riders."
being told to us as having coming from a Ma. State Trooper. Who knows. I've not had a problem though.
