And I was pleasantly surprised. I'd expected to have to adjust more, but the biggest difference I noticed was the lag in acceleration. Turning and braking felt pretty comfortable, although I was going pretty easy. Just tooled around town a little bit, didn't go anywhere far, but I feel next time I can handle the freeway or longer rides.

Most people who ride 2-up the first time aren't sure what to expect. Alot depends on the passenger and how they ride along while you stop and go in traffic, etc. A quiet rider (body wise) makes it very easy to handle the bike but if they are moving around and try and steer with you as you make turns etc it can make an easy ride turn into an unpleasant experience. A little knowledge goes along way so before I give any new riders a ride I give them a few instructions so they know what not to do.

If you had an eventless experience, your pax definitely followed the basic rules. Nothing will catch your attention more than a pax who suddenly shifts without warning while you're in a turn. Good to hear it was a good first time experience for you.

I road my first passenger a few a about a week ago. And it wasn't to bad at all. My sister was the passenger and I gave her some do's and do-not's and it wasn't bad at all. Definite lag in acceleration though.
Afterwards though I felt more comfortable on my bike at low speeds. So, I kinda think that riding someone two up (carefully) for a beginner rider can be an advantage. |

Yeap, I gave them instructions on what to do and what not to do and they listened pretty well. I gave a couple people a ride and one guy kept shifting around while coming to a stop, which was a bit annoying, but his sister was a perfect passenger, hardly noticed there was somebody there.

i took my first passenger a few weeks ago... i didn't like it much. I told him to lean with me, but as a sportsbike passenger he was leaning far too much and the slow speed handling of the 900 was greatly affected.
... maybe i'll just stick to carrying lightweight women from now-on! |

Had my first passenger on my bike this past weekend. Well I really didn't have a choice cause she demanded a ride. Told her the basics and away we went. She enjoyed it and i took it really easy on her. I could tell she wasn't leaning completely with me but not bad for the first time. I didn't go too fast either cause her dad is an attorney

That's great! I'm happy to read that alot of you have recently tried it and found it easier to do than you thought. I have yet to try riding a passenger yet. I keep trying to get hubby to let me ride him....wait, that came out wrong, let me try again
Someday I will find a willing passenger that be my first!!! ![]() |

being married its easier to deny rides. I just tell them sorry its not my seat much like my wallet and car and bank account and... well you get the idea... it belongs to my wife and she doesn't like to share.
