Says in the article, he tried to pass on the right.

I was always taught to pass on the far left when going at those speeds.

Story kinda hits home because im 19.

Jaydub-
There is a difference between you and many of the people starting out,in that you WANT the input.I`ve met a number of the "squids",the ones with the shorts,sneakers/no socks, tank tops and the attitude that you can`t tell them anything. They feel there isn`t anything you can tell them because their reflexes and skills will keep them from incident, and they`re bulletproof..
Just keep learning and riding at your own rate and try to learn something new every time out, analyze your ride when you get back home and you`ll be fine.
And don`t be afraid to ask questions, that`s what all your friends on the forum are here for.

Sad to hear for the family, but damn when are people going to realize that highways are not designed as and are not maintained as race tracks...

The more often these events happen the more I'm inclined to agree with restricting CC's for the beginner.

here's a link to another artical with pics of the bike after
1st Responder Broadcast Network is the definitive source of local news for the Emergency Service Community portal and Resource for Firefighting, Fire, Rescue, EMS and Safety.

Check out the 4th pic. The red bag on the right side of the pic above the car hood was his left leg. Not a pretty sight.

Hell, I hate passing on the Right with lights and sirens blaring.

Have had to pass on the right a couple times & even after slowing to a crawl & sounding like a growling cat the car still tried pulling into us.

Driving into the oncoming lane of traffic is so much safer.

I hate passing on the right when responding code 3... I'd rather go into oncoming traffic or jump the median.

I feel sorry for that lady in the van, she has to go through life with the memories of the accident.

No matter how many young, unsafe, speeding, wreckless riders die a year, there is going to be hundreds more wanting to buy a sportsbike, to be "cool". It's that young unbreakable mentality.

the reality, young guys do have better reflexes............sorry its true.

and, sporty guys do tend to practice more

Yeah but they make up for their faster reflexes with foolishness and unnecessary risk taking.

Too often they practice to death. True, but the average cruiser does the speed limit or below (my experiences). Reflexes or not, 120+ is going to win every time. That's why it needs to be kept on the track where it's a controlled environment. Not a lot you can control at that speed.

EMT's/Firefighters/Police are hero's hero's. Sorry to hear you had a bad day... hopefully in the next few you can have a heart warming day like a birth or something to counter balance the universe for you. Keep up the good work on the home front!

In the city I would tend to agree, cruisers do go by the speed limit, but many cruisers, as do sportbikes, love to open it up on the highway...all bikers take risks...some learn by example, others by experience, and some just learn the hard way...even I kinda learned the hard way, I was a squid a while back and I payed for it with my collar bone being snapped in half...unfortunetly sometimes that's what it takes...
